Default RIP Merle Haggard

The Bard of Bakersfield passed away this morning on his 79th birthday. A true original and giant in the Country music world. Merle and George Jones are my 83 yr. old dad's all-time favorites, so I grew up hearing a lot of their music playing in the background.

2016 just keeps stealing them away. This year has been beyond brutal and we're only 1/4 of the way in.

He was one of my top 5 favorite country singer/songwriter/musicians, along with Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Billy Joe Shaver, and Willie Nelson. I saw Johnny a couple of times and I've seen Billy Joe and Willie play live several times over the years and was hoping to get a chance to see Merle before it was too late.

Damn! The grim reaper is working overtime this year.
