To an exstent^.That's not all its about. Yet no women ever see it. We hoot an holler about being treated equally yet we knock eachother down over the outfits we wear. Until women start looking at other women as allies and not adversaries, real feminisim, aint happened yet.We (women) are so quick to condemn one another and pit ourselves against eachother that every time someone uses the word feminisim I cringe inside. I used to see it on this board all the time and it was hilarious. Women this, sister that, but when a new chick would join oh no we were skeptical, some would talk ****, and others would try to run the new female off.
We can't treat eachother properly, so until we can actually do that. I dont give a damn what the oppisite sex sees or thinks about "our plight". Once "we" learn how to treat eachother on a daily basis then we can worry about the oppisite sex and how they keep us down. Because "we" are still keep ourselves down.

A lot of that is undoubtedly due to culture and various social pressures which promote competition between women, like fashion and body ideals and whatnot. I assume women in some cultures cooperate better than women in others. Still, somewhere behind all that environmental influence, you are describing a basic human trait; an ability and desire to compete with others. Women are competitive (as are men) and I assume changing human nature may be beyond the scope of feminism (?).

(Not saying this isn't something feminists shouldn't care about because I still think it is a valid concern. I just see it as a problem that can be reduced rather than eradicated.)

I feel like your only half right brother. And unfortunately right now Im a bit busy. Ill get back to you later.

The last post felt a little off-topic, so to tie it in with Trollheart's intended topic, I might admit I feel the same thing about mankinds capacity for war. It is hardwired into us genetically. Under the right circumstances - with the right stimulus - conflict becomes a knee-jerk reaction for most of us, but it can still be controlled, regulated and overruled.

Increasingly, nations have become co-dependent on eachother. We interact more now than before and a war against your neighbour is probably going to hurt yourself. Stuff like that promotes peace and I guess globalization is going to increase into the future.

Yeah, I'm gonna respectfully ask the topic be stuck to. Nothing against feminism but I don't see what that has to do with my thread. Discuss it all you want but it's pulling this one off topic so maybe start a thread about feminism? Oh., wait...

Many of the wars we've fought down the centuries have been about territory, religion, or sometimes finances, but at the heart of it all, is Man (no offence to ladies, I'm using the term as an overall one) genetically predisposed towards war, fighting and conflict? Could such a thing as peace --- proper, true, complete peace, if it were ever achieved --- cause humanity to stagnate and even die out? Do we, as many have conjectured down the ages, need war to survive, to keep our instincts sharp, to assure the survival of the fittest and the most cunning?

Short answer: Yes, but (1) we can use our brains to make decisions that go against our nature, (2) we have evolved technologically at a much faster rate then we can genetically so given enough time we can probably evolve past our current genetic predisposition if we live in a place/time where it's not longer necessary for our survival.

Edit: Sorry if this has been covered but I don't have time to read all the responses atm.

Men do the exact same thing. Do you think they hold themselves down?

I've actually asked for this not to be discussed here DWV if you read back a little. It's off-topic and I have no idea what it has to do with the question I asked. Thanks.
