I don't understand why it matters that they were Marines.

So, did the NRA come out and say that none of this would have happened if the victims were armed themselves?
Oh wait...

you don't think it matters who the target of an attack is?

You might be right though.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...r-chattanooga/

in this case, i would say the nra rhetoric has some merit to it. it seems military people are desirable targets for terrorists. if there is a specific policy restricting them from being armed at certain military facilities, then they should either beef up security at those facilities or let the soldiers arm themselves.

but when they said the same thing about the black church, i thought that was kind of ridiculous. that seemed like more of a freak incident, and a church isn't really the most appropriate place for people to be carrying guns

I don't think it makes sense for people to be more upset about it because they were Marines.

well.. i think the fact that it was people in the military makes it more inflammatory because it would seem to have a political/terrorist agenda

think in terms of the shooting of the black church.. do you think that story would have the same narrative if he just shot up a random taco bell full of people of different races instead?

This post makes no sense. The reason Obama won't/can't ban guns is because it is totally impossible for any president to do so, due to the gun culture already prevalent in the USA since after World War II. You really think anyone is going to be able to put that genie back in the bottle?

I completely miss your point about why having Islamic ties (which I don't think he has; I'm pretty sure an American president would want to support American industry and that he buys American ties) has anything to do with this??? Also, do you mean "Islamic" or "Islamist", as they are two widely different things?

I would hazard it's a case of "they were defending us and now someone killed them". Maybe. It's obviously awful when anyone is killed but I think it hurts a little more when servicemen are killed, not in combat, but where they should be able to assume they would be safe.
