This thread sucks. I was actually hoping for some discussion about the OP which is why my first post compared it to flying a swastika. Unfortunately it turned into a bunch of crap about who's flag is cooler.

John Wilkes Booth 07-17-2015 04:25 PM

yea. this thread sucks cause it didn't center around the same mundane swastika analogy that we get from the daily show & co....

everybody's a critic. nobody directs.

DwnWthVwls 07-17-2015 04:35 PM

I don't watch those shows I wouldn't know.

I understand the states rights argument about the flag not representing racism but just the cultural south, that being said....

I think they should allow African Americans in the south to decide the flags future.

If African Americans vote to have it moved in say the state of Mississippi, than it should go, otherwise it can stay.

I mean I wouldn't want to live under a flag that symbolized oppression of my race, indeed if that is what it symbolizes to them. So let the African Americans decide, they're the ones who've lived under it for more than a century.

John Wilkes Booth 07-17-2015 05:45 PM

how about this compromise:

Lol, I love the Malcolm X confederate flag, hilarious.

Honestly though the whole states rights issue has a pretty shady history in the South, I think the African Americans of those states should be able to choose whether or not it gets locked away in a museum.

John Wilkes Booth 07-17-2015 11:10 PM

in all seriousness i basically agree the states shouldn't fly the flag

like epoch said i also think people should be allowed to fly it if they want as private citizens.. but state govts really have no business flying the flag of a failed rebellion

once again that is unless we just decide to change the american flag to the confederate flag... which isn't about states rights.. it's just about updating the current mediocre flag to a an above average flag

Well that's good, your previous statement made me think the otherwise.

Seems to still be an ongoing debate amongst Republicans.

@ john wilkes booth

....dude you totally triple posted...

*using his best middle eastern accent imitation*

my friend, if you continue this nonsense, I'm going to fly a plane into your moped...

hopefully the feds don't take that as a serious threat... hey feds, if you're reading this, I was just joking around.. I'm still very patriotic... see?

Anyway, when can you change the wording under your avatar? Is it after you make one hundred posts? I want to change it from music addict to Terorista Maldito.

btw, DwnWthVwls, when you said, "I was actually hoping for some discussion about the OP which is why my first post compared it to flying a swastika?", what exactly did you mean? Because I don't know what you mean by OP.

tbh im not really sure what that word means

i tried google and this is what i get

so you tell me

am i trying to start a trend by making this kind of thread? not really. basically what happens is... i think of something... then i consider posting it... then i say to myself
you know you're going to have to argue with people as to whether or not this should be a thread/whether its edgy/etc for the first couple of posts... it's like a ritual at this point i have to clear the fields to plant some seeds. so then i do and then eventually people start posting in the thread for real, sometimes to discuss the topic or a digression that branched off it, sometimes just to rate it, cause i dunno gives them a temporary position of power? who knows

i always interpreted "trying to be edgy" as i'm trying to offend.. and for this thread i'd have to ask how people see this as an attempt to offend.

i mean i'll be honest and say in other threads i have used inflammatory buzzwords just for the sheer sake of it... but i usually make it so over the top that it seems like people should be able to recognize that for what it is.

but in this thread i thought i gave a pretty fair and non-inflammatory intro, and then so it wasn't all serious put some lighthearted flag humor at the end. so if you really consider that edgy then i dunno.. we just don't belong on the same planet/forum

Holy **** you put a lot of effort into that response for an offhand comment.

Those definitions dont do common usage (ime) justice
I don't think edgy is synonyms with offensive. It probably has a lot of overlap, but the main thing is that you do things considered socially unacceptable because you want to convey an image that you don't give a **** what anyone thinks. (Not you personally, you the plural).
