There used to be such a thing as Liberal Republicans. One of the most famous was Tom McCall of Oregon, others were Frank Church & Lowell Weicker. Then came Reagan, IMO the worst thing that ever happened, and that's the Republican party ever since.

Google, not in this day and age. Before the civil war, Republicans were the more liberal party and they slowly traded places with the Dems after the war. So ja, if you go back several years there were liberal Republican politicians, but those don't exist in America today.

I think you're not using the same logic for liberals and republicans. When you discussed liberals you included the public, but not when it comes to republicans. Of course there are liberal republicans. Probably most of them believe in classical liberal values.

That's because you don't see what Roxxy was talking about on the government level. A Republican (or Democrat) politician who is openly liberal or conservative, respectively, is committing political suicide due to the divisive nature of American politics leaving no gray area for sensible people to lead in.
