And democrats are any different? Idk how they fair historically but presently they are just as guilty of what that quote is accusing republicans of. It's big business not politics.

That was almost 20 years ago and pre-9/11.

Point stands. Democrats left a huge surplus and the GOP sucked it dry. As typical.

Unless the cost of war isn't considered in that graph, I don't understand the point you're trying to make. Also, that is representative of Democrats almost 20 years ago, where is Obama's term(s) in that graph? Does it trend positively?

It's complicated.

it's complicated is right... but i would say democratic presidents have certainly embraced the military industrial complex, ever since fdr

clinton's surplus had more to do with the 90's economy and his tax policies than defense spending imo

It's the Republicans who love to war, not the Democrats. And it's the Republicans who ruin the economy, not the Democrats. That's a fact. And you know it. The Democrats know that when a president is elected, he is elected as the president of this country, not somebody else's. And the Republicans only do something in an effort to make money for themselves, even if it means spending somebody else's money. In fact, that's the way they prefer it. They love to gamble with your money and mine.

But, getting back to immigration. It is said that America hates immigrants but loves immigration. It's true. America has a vested interest in immigrants. They may not have much money individually but collectively, they're worth billions every year to big, rich companies. Ever notice how the well-to-do and elite bad-mouth immigrants all the time but big companies go out of their way to put everything in English and Spanish when they push their products? Immigrants are also useful as cheap labor for the upper-class and rich. "Mow that lawn, Juan. Wash those clothes, Maria." I think you know where I'm coming from.

Appealing to a market segment and being xenophobic are two very different things.

My point is this: the immigrants aren't going anywhere any time soon. Because America doesn't want them to. They need them. I truly feel that if you are to be in this country you should be here legally. But America is going to allow immigration from Mexico as long as they can, because they know they can benefit from it financially. And it's not just monetary gain we're talking about here. Look at it this way: if every Mexican immigrant were to be replaced by, let's say, non-English speaking French Canadian immigrants, we would never hear any talk about immigration.
