The idea that is being pushed is that the these people are going into areas that don't ID voters and voting.

That idea is bogus and completely not happening. You still get documented when you vote.

Is there anyone opposed to voter ID that could explain to me why it's "racist" and "unnecessary?" I've seen a lot of stupid **** on my Facebook. All of these people saying it's a horrible idea but I can't say I can understand why.

Voter ID ends up harming the Democratic vote most of the time.
So the reasoning that people give is that it is harder especially for Blacks in southern states to get photo IDs for numerous reasons. I feel like as long as they can show a piece of mail with their name on it and corresponding address they should be able to vote. Voter fraud the minimal amouny of times that it happens is more likely to happen when people mail in votes. Republicans usually end up turning people away from polling places illegally but on the other hand if they are too dumb to know they have the right to vote and don't eat up the lies of Republicans at polling places maybe they shouldn't be voting. Most people take it for granted that you have a photo ID until it is made extremely difficult for you to get one.

Why is it difficult for them to get one?

Historically it's been used for racist means and people with limited transportation and funds can have difficulty obtaining an ID.

Because some states make it difficult. Many of those states are the same states that have a very long history of voter suppression against black people as well, which is why voter ID laws tend to have the stench of racism associated with them.

Okay, thanks for the info guys. Was just curious because we have ID laws here in Canada but i've never heard anyone make a fuss about it. I can see how it would be easier to obtain sufficient ID here though.

They are just not informed then I should call them ignorant. You can report polling places that are doing corrupt stuff like that.

1)Count election day as a holiday much like we do with other holidays that give us the day off from work. It's our American freedom to vote, and a lot of people can't get out to vote because their job won't allow it. 2)Require everybody do mail in votes if applicable. If you can't get out of work to vote on voting day, mail it in. Some states still don't do this as far as I know, and it's dumb as hell. Possibly a third option: Make voting accessible on a dedicated protected server so you can do it online in your own home. |
