The view from across the water:-
Britain and America are supposedly meritocracies, but in 2016 the reputation of both countries has been damaged by the conduct of some very sub-prime politicians who have been allowed to rise to unjustifiable prominence. So it is in a spirit of commiseration that I offer a couple of comments that have appeared in Brit newspapers recently:
"Sunday night’s US presidential debate was without parallel in the history of such occasions for the mudslinging that preceded it and the animosity that stalked the stage along with the two participants." "No Republicans who publicly back Mr Trump at this stage are likely to do anything but damage their reputations." "Trump is going down and he intends to take everyone else with him - Hillary and Bill Clinton, his running mate Mike Pence, the Republican Party, the dignity of the presidency and the political culture of the United States".

This thread is a sh*t show, I love it.
Trump has proven to be a less deplorable human being than Hillary over the course of his life in my opinion, but the controversies surrounding him seem to hit people more directly in the feel glands. Those are harder to forgive as the sensitive whining in this thread can attest to. But assuming you still consider him a more deplorable person - wide margin or not - could we put it to the side and look at the issues and what the two are likely to do. Getting caught up in the hysteria of Trump's overstated controversy doesn't help anyone.

I can't see myself voting for either of them strictly for policies. There are certain things Trump has mentioned that I agree with, but just as many things that I can't get behind.

Also Trump is a less deplorable person than Hillary? Give me a ****ing break. They are both awful in their own unique ways and equally deplorable. They deserve to be in baskets.
