it's complicated is right... but i would say democratic presidents have certainly embraced the military industrial complex, ever since fdr
clinton's surplus had more to do with the 90's economy and his tax policies than defense spending imo |

It's the Republicans who love to war, not the Democrats. And it's the Republicans who ruin the economy, not the Democrats. That's a fact. And you know it. The Democrats know that when a president is elected, he is elected as the president of this country, not somebody else's. And the Republicans only do something in an effort to make money for themselves, even if it means spending somebody else's money. In fact, that's the way they prefer it. They love to gamble with your money and mine.
But, getting back to immigration. It is said that America hates immigrants but loves immigration. It's true. America has a vested interest in immigrants. They may not have much money individually but collectively, they're worth billions every year to big, rich companies. Ever notice how the well-to-do and elite bad-mouth immigrants all the time but big companies go out of their way to put everything in English and Spanish when they push their products? Immigrants are also useful as cheap labor for the upper-class and rich. "Mow that lawn, Juan. Wash those clothes, Maria." I think you know where I'm coming from. |

My point is this: the immigrants aren't going anywhere any time soon. Because America doesn't want them to. They need them. I truly feel that if you are to be in this country you should be here legally. But America is going to allow immigration from Mexico as long as they can, because they know they can benefit from it financially. And it's not just monetary gain we're talking about here. Look at it this way: if every Mexican immigrant were to be replaced by, let's say, non-English speaking French Canadian immigrants, we would never hear any talk about immigration.

I got your point, I just don't think that your line of thinking is as reasonable as you do in a couple of those examples.
So I'm curious, will Trump ever talk about what he'll do as president or is he just going to keep railing against his opponents? It's like he's satirizing modern politics at this point.

He is, indeed. Like I said in an earlier post, he won't win. He's just the latest version of Ross Perot. He's a flash-in-the-pan. Nothing more. We won't be talking about him after 2015. We better not. For the sake of the country and world. He's an Archie Bunker type. There's a lot of American males who fit that bill, btw. They feel free to talk all day about how they would handle the presidency and the world but what would happen if these armchair warriors were actually given the chance. We, as a species, better hope it never happens. Sarcastically speaking, I like it when he said, something to the effect of, "John McCain is a hero because he got caught. I like people who don't get caught". What the hell is that supposed to mean? Was he going for some ill-fated punch-line? If he was, he sure got it. Guess he thinks he's funny. That makes one person in the world that does. At least, I should hope so.

Vietnam was started by a Texan president, who was a Democrat, but had conservative views (LBJ). And the second Iraq war, like the first was started by a Republican, both were named Bush. And, no, the Democrats very much, at least, walk the walk of peace. I'd rather have a Democrat in office than a Republican, because a Republican is always acting like the insecure little kid on the playground, always looking for a fight to prove himself.
