You say that like it's a bad thing. Revelations was written during John's mushroom trip in a cave and it's easily the most badass part of the bible.

I don't think "implement" is the right word. That implies some sort of state decree, or Congress passing a couple of bills, which is not how socialism works. I don't think socialism is on the way anytime soon, and I certainly don't think this election will bring the US much further towards it. That wasn't my point.

I'm not even talking about the presidential election. Xurtio was saying that capitalism is productive and efficient. I was trying to tell why I disagree. The part about collective ownership was to prevent a possible comment on how socialism equals state control. I was not trying to make it look like socialism is easy, or somehow the solution to all problems.

Considering how ****ing divided this country currently is do you even have an ounce of thinking that would work?

I own my home, well at least until it's paid off which will be in the next 10 years. I currently have about $250K in equity. I own my car. I own a bunch of expensive toys. I pay my taxes at a pretty high rate. I also have a 401K. The better the "pie" does, the better my 401K reacts.

Being realistic, as an individual looking at the landscape, you take the cards that are dealt your way and make the best possible play. Trump is a bust because he has absolutely no substance. It's all pretense. He's an unpredictable loose cannon. Sanders is a bust because the establishment will never let him make the changes he wants. He sounds great on paper but will never work in the real world. Clinton is far from perfect but has been in the national game for decades and at least knows how to work the system towards her platform.

She's not a war monger. She was conned just like everyone else that voted for that war. She messed up on how she reported after the fact on Benghazi, but how does that make her responsible for the actual event? She's the closest to my belief system and actually stands a chance of working across the aisles.

Live in la la land all you want, but someone has to be the next commander in chief. Clinton is our best bet IMO.

The greatest work of fiction known to man.

Right, I agree wjth your first sentence. The free market is what was born out of that Hobbes/Locke era, and in the US, that evolved into capitalism which isn't defined by your second sentences, but can have that problem when the market isn't regulated to protect workers.

And yes, free market principles were very productive, that's why the US grew so fast and eventually became so powerful for such a young country.

Capitalism is not inherently incompatible with regulation - our regulation process has been corrupted by congress such that money influences politics (also not inherent to capitalism, but a natural byproduct without regulation).

So, as with most economic structures, corruption is the primary problem. Another problem is culture. Russia was not ready for democracy when it was thrust upon them. The US wouldn't be ready for heavy socialist principles suddenly being applied.

I think Jane Eyre is the greatest work of fiction, if you're a lover at heart.
