Im not saying there isn't the possibility of being in crossfire or the wrong place at the wrong time, but if your body language radiates don't **** with me your ok 97% of the time. I know this because I have walked through some ****ty neighborhoods alone at three am and been ok, every time. And there isn't really much that is intimidating about me. I am 5'7 medium build woman. I mean if anyone is a target at that hour should be me, but nope, **** its so mental even a pitbull won't swing on me.

true enough, people in the ghetto do look for weakness

but guess what? humans are pattern seeking animals, which means that your weaknesses aren't as easy to conceal as you might think

they do notice your race

the way you are dressed

the way you behave

and anything of value that you make readily apparent

in the neighborhood that i lived at down in fl thugs would rob guatemalan immigrants on a regular basis because it was well known that they were usually illegal and would be doing day labor for cash, thus walking home on a friday with a pocket full of money (no bank account). kids would look for them, spot one that is on a back street/somewhere not too busy, then ambush him and beat him senseless, take whatever cash he had. happened on a pretty regular basis... people call guatemalans 'walking atm machines' down there.

also i knew people who told me straight up if they saw a white person walking by themselves at night they'd target them cause more likely than not they have an iphone or some **** like that to take

try puffing your shoulders out as you walk down their block to protect yourself from being a victim... they'll just take that as a challenge & yet another reason you have an X on your back

i'm sure you've walked down many hoods though roxy, i don't doubt that, but you're female, black, and probably didn't look very much out of place tbh. but i guarantee you that you could get touched just like anyone else... if you happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time unarmed and with something of value
