i honestly dunno what to think about that obama vs romney clip
i mean yea he made romney sound dumb, but here's my issue the left generally maintains that the military is too large and that spending cuts to address the deficit should be aimed at the military. they naively assume that the military is just a big racket that is adding nothing to our civilization other than defending us from foreign invaders. no politician can address the pragmatic reality that we benefit from our military empire by essentially setting the rules of international trade. so having a thorough a robustly funded navy is of vital strategic importance to the united states. the republicans seem to get this but can't say it cause it sounds bad. i mean it's basically imperialism and people don't like the sound of that but guess what... our prosperity is built on a foundation of imperialism so you can't have your cake and eat it too. the democrats on the other hand either pretend not to know how american imperialism can be beneficial to american prosperity or they take the moral stance that you've gotta stop that right now. but they can't sell that to the establishment because it's an absurd idea that only a fool who's never properly read a history book would take seriously. they can only peddle it to their grass roots common folk followers who swallow it down like gospel, oblivious to the logic on which policy decisions are actually being made. so in a way romney is sort of right to point out that the democrats are so eager to cut military spending and that this is unacceptable. he just ends up looking foolish cause he can't say its actually to maintain the empire, he has to pretend like it's just about 'keeping americans safe' Last edited by John Wilkes Booth; 04-30-2015 at 08:20 PM. |
