No. You're paying for the service (& in this country public transport is expensive) they're not doing it for free. No need to thank them for doing what they're supposed to do.

I do thank them btw.

I think I'm more likely to say "have a nice day" to bus drivers than "thank you" but I always say something if I'm getting off at the front.

I guess I kind of pick and choose the "manners" that mean anything to me.

I don't mind if you're:

- Picking your nose, boogers can be annoying, go to town on that ****.
- Chewing your fingernails, they're not mine.
- Holding your fork like a shovel, I find it easier too, more leverage.
- Not saying hi to me as you pass me on the street, we don't know each other.
- Not making conversation with me in a line-up, we don't know each other.
- Not asking me how my day is going when I'm buying things from you.
- Not tying your hair up at the dinner table, I'm eating food, not watching your hair.
- Putting your elbows on the table, my plate is at least a foot or more away from yours.
- Texting somebody when we're hanging out, I don't require your exclusive attention.
- Not opening the passenger door exclusively for your female friends.
- Talking on your phone in a grocery store lineup, we all have lives outside of shopping.
- Smoking indoors or in my vehicle every once in a while, just open a window.

However, all of that being said, I will avoid doing a lot of those things myself if I know or suspect it's going to bother the people I'm around.
I think it's quite reasonable and often expected of you to tailor your behavior to suite your company.

I do mind if you're:

- Not using your turn signals, passing on the inside, tailgating, merging at 50 km/h etc.
- Talking on your phone in a movie theater during the movie.
- Loudly ranting over U.S. foreign policy or hipsters or pop stars or yoga pants or whatever in a retail outlet, there are better places to discuss this, you're just going to piss off other customers or employees.

You might be missing out on some good times, though.
