Well, to be honest, being on forums is a form of social media too,
but I'm referring more to Facebook and that ilk.

Eh, are they really though? "Social Media" is a newer term that I thought was meant to mean Myspace, facebook, etc.

I just thought a forum was a forum.

Social media is media used for socializing. Like a chat room or a forum.

And while you have a lot of users the vast majority of them do not post with any amount of personality. I remember a few years ago when the membership was dying but we still had a bunch of old guard members they'd sometimes wax on about how the site used to be better but then I go into old threads from any given time before like a decade ago and they're all filled with one sentence responses from boring ****s who never had more than a hundred posts.

I think there was a short golden period in the late 00s/early 10s where the userbase had already peaked and was waning but was in that sweet spot where much of the tourists had left and the mid-size community of dedicated members hadn't bled out like it had by the mid/late 10s. And even then people were saying the site was dying and wasn't what it was.

I love it. I love all the gang. I like the amount of regular posters. I wish chula would return and roxy but most people I don’t miss. I wish key posted more. And Chio of course. I also wish wolf liked me more.

The amount of music information in our search engine in here is phenomenal. For the most part, we’re fans and not critics. I don’t think there’s anything else like it online.

music banter and free jazz collective blog and pitchfork are my top three online resources

but music banter works best in conjunction with Spotify and bandcamp

Recommendations like crazy

Sometimes I think I’m too generous with my recommendations making people less inclined to dig into what I suggest but I try to be clear if it’s more for fans of the genre or outstanding beyond that point.

Music is hard to write about but who cares about that? You discover new music by plugging it into Spotify or hitting the bandcamp link. Long winded rocknroll journalism was much more important before you could listen to anything you want to.
