@ larehip i've never heard that interpretation of the eden tale before (being a metaphor for growing up) before but it is an interesting take one it. so if only adam and eve would've refrained from disobeying god they would have been childlike forever?
as for the snake tricking eve.. i assumed that had to do with the death bit. the snake says something along the lines of "surely you will not die." while at first glance you might think he was right since when she bit the fruit she didn't die, when god punished adam & eve part of that punishment was the introduction of death into their world. i wondered the same thing whenever i read the story of the prophet elijah. whenever i ask christian they say that the period of revelation is over or whatever since jesus went to heaven that this is all the proof i need of god and it's up to me to put my faith in christ. seems like a really convenient excuse to me. elijah gets fire beams from heaven as proof of the one true god and i get a bunch of old superstitious books. |

God, admitting he completely f*cked up, and deciding he wanted a total "do over" via the Noah narrative, is enough to poke a huge f*cking hole in everything that is supposed to be GOD.

There were some scientists that tried to explain the Red Sea parting as wind and reef. Still pretty unbelievable. Would require 4 hours of sustained wind that allows passage then stops right as the Egyptians try to cross.
Burning bush explanation was volcanic vent under a bush (plus one schizophrenic to hear a voice right?

Kid sets bushes on fire for fun.
Sees old dude wandering desert 'Oh ****!' Hides behind bush. Old dude approaches bush. 'What the ****?' 'Uhh it's God. Take off your shoes.'

i think what ori was saying about the transition from hunter gatherer tribes to agriculture has a point to it as well. i already posted the verses that highlight this. and this also is paralleled in the epic of gilgamesh, which is ultimately at it's core a tribute to man's transition from tribal life to civilization.
