Having sex with animals is a horrible practice, because there is no possible way that the animal could ever give consent. At that point, you're just traumatizing them and putting them through needless physical pain. The reason most people don't ask whether it's "alright" or not is because, unless you're someone trying desperately to add doubt to the equation to try to justify your actions, the question kind of answers itself if you take just a few moments to think about it.

And this thread is pointless, as "gay" and "straight" are rather arbitrary terms when you're discussing people who have changed genders. People are who they are, regardless of what labels you feel the need to stick on them. So why worry about trying to find a universal answer to a question that everyone interprets differently? It's different for everyone; there are both straight and gay people who would have oral sex with a trans-woman/man.

Actually, it's fairly straightforward. The vast majority of animals lack the physical ability to display consent to a human, as well as the intelligence required to fully understand the situation, and our differences in anatomy would only cause serious pain to the animal.

Neither do plants, or other living creatures that display time and again that they'd rather live than die, but we humans have to eat something to survive. As long as the methods are humane, and the animals are given decent lives (as well as the method of slaughtering being as painless as possible, which is why I rarely eat pork), then modern consumption of meat is pretty much just an extension of the hunting/meat eating that allowed humanity to survive more adequately to the point where we could develop the ground-work for society as we know it.

And yes, I know I could respond in the creepy animal thread, but it's a dead thread and I don't want to necro-bump it. And honestly, why not just talk about it here? Your "fairly straightforward" argument gets thrown out the window with that one question. If it was so straightforward it wouldn't have created multiple pages of discussion and arguing.

First of all, animals use rape as a form of asserting dominance. That's usually what's going on when an animal tries to have sex with you. And since there's no way to effectively communicate with animals on such matters, there is no way to tell what their motives are in a given situation, and even if you thought an animal was "consenting" there is no possible way to know for sure. Even intelligent and hyper sexual animals like dolphins have no possible way of accurately conveying such desires, while simultaneously displaying that they're making an informed decision. So yeah, it actually is still a fairly straightforward issue.

When a living being doesn't have the intellectual capacity to understand what they're committing to, or simply has no way of reasonably conveying their desires without doubt, they can not give consent. This is the same reason for why having sex with someone who has certain mental illnesses/disabilities is considered rape. If a severely mentally handicapped person started trying to have sex with you, you have an obligation to get out of the situation without goading them on, and if you don't and simply sit back and allow things to unfold, you're raping them. The same principle applies to animals.
