Idiot teenager posts smiling Auschwitz selfie

In case you almost had a hint of faith in the younger generation, this young lady has come along and ruined it for you.

http://s3-ec.buzzfed.com/static/2014...05889436-7.png

She is also apparently unaware that she's being trolled by someone masquerading as Adolf Hitler.

As for her reasons for taking a smiling selfie in front of a Nazi death camp:

Quote:

I do understand what happened there. I studied it for years with my dad and we always planned to visit there but he died a year ago, so that trip actually meant something to me and I was happy about it.
Just look at all these things she's got to smile about!

And this, my friends, is why I refuse to procreate. No matter how good of a parent you think you are, your kid might turn out to be an idiot.

The Batlord 07-21-2014 01:08 PM

Dude, she took a selfie, she didn't finger herself in the gas chamber looking at a picture of a shirtless Adolf Hitler. Give the girl a break.

The smiley is a nice touch.

At the risk of sounding insensitive here is my opinion..

We are too damn politically correct at times, this girl didn't kill those ppl and at least in that pic she is just smiling why is exactly is that disrespectful? cause it's in a place where bad things happened? wouldn't it be more pretentious if she stood there with a frown and posted something about the injustice that happened there?

We all know what happened and we all know who to blame for it so why is this girl smiling there so politically incorrect? do we still have to carry that guilt around and regurgitate it to show how conscious we are as ppl?

I do think it's a little sad that a new generation perhaps won't know the significance of events like this but it's not like we can force them to care just by calling them stupid cause the sad thing is even the ppl pointing out her stupidity really don't care either.. we just wanna we go

"Ha! silly girl you don't know what happened there"

Isbjørn 07-21-2014 02:08 PM

Frankly, I don't think it's that big of a deal and I'm not offended.

Offended, not hardly. Horrified that we are giving someone named "Princess Brenna" the time of day tho...
I don't care what the **** she posted her name is turn off enough...

Totally. I imagine many of these people were the same type to update their Facebook with that Kony 2012 fad crap and then never do a single thing to actually contribute to the cause they probably went on about online for weeks. Kids without any real fight of there own who want to jump on the nearest bandwagon so they can pat themselves on the back and say what good people they all are.

Isbjørn 07-21-2014 02:15 PM

She tweeted "I'm famous yall" upon discovering the internet attention, I must admit that I chuckled a little and then cringed a little.

Nobody said she wasn't actually a dumbass.

Janszoon 07-21-2014 02:29 PM

It does come off as kind of insensitive—the smiley emoticon more so than the photo really—but hardly worthy of the level of scorn being heaped on her by other people. I think it's interesting that, even though she said that she was smiling because it's somewhere her and her recently deceased father always wanted to go together, I didn't see anyone asking why Auschwitz of all places was somewhere they wanted to visit. Maybe they had relatives who were imprisoned there. Maybe they had relatives who helped liberate the place. Who knows, but as usual people will jump to conclusions based on a surface reading of a single photo.

Isbjørn 07-21-2014 02:29 PM

@Batty: I know. She comes off as a dumbass alright, but nothing worth creating a thread in the news subforum about.

No one really knows what she is thinking of at that moment, so she really shouldn't be called an "idiot." It could be anything she feeling at the time. The only evidence it what she said that both her and her father were suppose to go to Auschwitz. But unfortunately he passed away. Maybe the visit cause her to think of her father and recall that painful time in her life. For all we know she could be thinking "I made it dad." She's looks stressed because her forehead is wrinkled from tension, what I see is a picture of mixed emotions. It could be at the time of the selfie a bittersweet moment for her to fulfill for the both of them alone what they once planned together.

Still. You've gotta think before you post sometimes. I'm almost surprised she didn't write "#summercamp" because I'm pretty sure anyone with half a heart would be crying it out at those gates.

Some people are more emotional than others. It takes time for emotions to build up and be released through crying. Why don't people have a cry out at the evening news but cry at the end of a movie? Because I think more time is needed to personally identify with the person to empathize for that person and have it emotionally affect the person witnessing it (even though it is a movie or a historical site). So I think what you said is more true leaving the place then just entering it.

Maybe I am wrong and you are right, but still I see her more of a "normal" girl making a faux pas than an intensive "idiot" who is the poster-child of her generation.

As someone who would probably take a picture of herself in a noose here, as a part-hebrew part-polish part-german who's great grandfather was an Auschwitz prisoner, I applaud this girl.

Just because she expresses her emotions differently than you do. She has no heart?

GuD 07-22-2014 10:18 PM

Eh, I'm with LiLs on this one. It's a little weird and insensitive to be taking selfies that look like they could have Disney World in the background at a place of extreme human suffering and some of the worst atrocities to disgrace the human race. Why would you want to visit such a horrible anyways? Eek, pass.

You probably don't know the back story but she was supposed to visit the place with a family member of hers that passed away.

There are stories of other survivors that have gone and smiled while taking pictures maybe as a big fuck you like I made it out alive. You can't just push your personal feelings about the place onto other people. They have their own reason for doing things.

All of this. Obviously it's inappropriate but it's not a case of it being either OK or all young people are a bunch of kunts and so is everyone who isn't outraged - where is the middle ground? People losing their shiit over this are overreacting massively. Plus she looks really young, I feel a bit sorry for her, I know we all did something daft when we were younger.

What is wrong with visiting Auschwitz anyway? I have always wanted to go (along with Elmina Castle) and I am going pretty soon. Not every holiday or 'vacation' has to be spent lying on a beach or getting pissed as a fart drinking cocktails lads.

Did you just say "great party" and then reference Adolf Hitler in the same post? Implying that the National Socialist party was great? I think that's incredibly insensitive and will now post insulting messages on your Facebook page. I implore the rest of the internet to follow suit.

Nothing wrong at all with visiting. If I had the opportunity I'd take the tour as well.

There is, however, a disgusting problem with today's young people, having to need their faces in every photo they take, having to beg for attention 24/7 or they feel unfulfilled. Stupid child, look around and take it in.

I caught that part, dunno how it makes much of a difference. If anything it'd be weirder if her dad was there too smiling in the pic. I can understand why people would go as a "fvck you" but that doesn't seem like that's the motivation here. It seems like she was just being vain and taking a selfie in poor taste. Either way I don't think what some teenager posts on her facebook is worthy of all that much attention.

That pisses me off and all but that's social networking for you.

The worst are people who pay good money to go to music or sports events, only to be stood there all evening taking photos so they can show off to all their friends on Twatter.

It's a strange sight seeing an artist go for it on stage, trying to entertain, and a majority of the crowd are just lifeless, stood still watching it through their 50mp camera phones.

It's a historical place. People go to Mount Rushmore and the Grand Canyon and go, "Oh wow, what a noteworthy moment to want to record for posterity, why don't I take a frakking picture?" all the time. So why not Auschwitz?

You can take things in and still take a picture to cherish the memory of actually going there.

I don't even see why that is an issue to you. It is just being petty imo.
