Scientific development is going horribly fast these days, so in a couple of years they've probably found ways to fill gaps in the ozone layers and convert carbon dioxide into the freshest, very breathable air. If not, I'll just blame capitalists.

Here's a viable alternative:

Colonization of Mars - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'd be willing to do it, and I'd bring my Dad/Old Man music with me.

I'll gladly take refuge in a rathole if there are pickles there.

^ It's a reference to "The Giant Rat of Sumatra" by Firesign Theater

Which means the RAT should have lived and the CAPTAIN should have died OF COURSE!

FRIGATE!

Fridge? The pickles are in a fridge? Because that's great.

Paul Smeenus 06-09-2014 11:29 AM

Didn't you mean the linen closet?

OK I'll put the pickles in the galoshes...

(rostasi is the only other person that gets any of this)

I want my pickles to be cold, not full of rubber odour.

I don't believe the world is about to end, humans maybe, sure, but not the world. The world has been through celestial collisions, meteor bombardments, super volcanoes that blocked out the sun for centuries, floods, fires, you name it, and recovered. She'll likely shake us off soon like the fleas we are, but she'll go on doing her thing.

Build your bunker, stockpile it with everything you'll need, sell your stocks and bonds and other assets and convert them to gold. The end is near!
After all, it's not as if the so-called "experts" have ever been wrong about their predictions...

“We have about five more years at the outside to do something.”
• Kenneth Watt, ecologist (1970)

“Civilization will end within 15 or 30 years unless immediate action is taken against problems facing mankind.”
• George Wald, Harvard Biologist (1970)

“Population will inevitably and completely outstrip whatever small increases in food supplies we make. The death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next ten years.”
• Paul Ehrlich, Stanford University biologist (1970)

“Demographers agree almost unanimously on the following grim timetable: by 1975 widespread famines will begin in India; these will spread by 1990 to include all of India, Pakistan, China and the Near East, Africa. By the year 2000, or conceivably sooner, South and Central America will exist under famine conditions….By the year 2000, thirty years from now, the entire world, with the exception of Western Europe, North America, and Australia, will be in famine.”
• Peter Gunter, professor, North Texas State University (1970)

“Scientists have solid experimental and theoretical evidence to support…the following predictions: In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution…by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half….”
• Life Magazine, January 1970

“Dr. S. Dillon Ripley, secretary of the Smithsonian Institute, believes that in 25 years, somewhere between 75 and 80 percent of all the species of living animals will be extinct.”
• Sen. Gaylord Nelson (1970)

“The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years. If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age.”
• Kenneth Watt, Ecologist (1970)

I hope so.

But people have always said the worlds about to end. I have doubts, but I welcome the apocalypse.
