Default Has the world improved overall, or got worse in your lifetime?

Obviously that's an impossible question to answer but I'd wonder how it would work out if we all listed the good things that we remember happening and then the bad. Would there be more of one than the other? There have certainly been some great achievements in my lifetime, making me often glad to be living in the era I do, but then there have been some pretty awful things too.

If you bother to do a list, remember you can't choose like World War II, as you have to have been at least born when these things happened.

For me (born in 1963)

Good
Man on the moon
Apartheid ends
Nelson Mandela freed
"The Troubles" in Northern Ireland over(ish)
Berlin Wall down

Bad
JFK killed
9/11
Black September
Omagh bombing
Nelson Mandela dies
Catholic Church sex scandals
The property crash leading to global recession
"Challenger" explodes

I'm sure there are tons more but that's all I can think of at the moment, and right now my tally is:
Good = 5
Bad = 8

Um.

Im not inclined to do a list and i don't have much to say but here i go.

I think we have made progress in some fields but not in others, For exmpl homosexuality has become more accepted which is GOOD but they still don't have the same rights as straight ppl, they only have them in some states which is BAD

Technolgy has made alot of progress which is GOOD because it has made life more convenient and it has unified ppl from all over the world with the internet and even saves lives, yet at the same it has created a dependency in us and now we can't imagine life without it which is.. bad? i honestly don't know if it's good or bad.

Im very optimistic of the future, im waiting for the birth of the A.I so we can have robot buddies and i also believe that maybe when our technology evolves to the point of us being able to colonize other planets we'll have our first contact with aliens.

Basically i want the future to be Mass effect cause i wanna f*ck Tali

Improved obviously. But the problem is, as you get older you start to realise all the bad shit that happens.

You want the robots to take over? Judgement Day isn't far off after A.I. becomes super integrated into our lifestyles.

There is injustice today of course but compared to the Jim Crow/KKK/segregation/lynching/Bull Connor/Mississippi Burning/Vietnam 1960's when I was a kid it's nowhere near as bad as that

I think it's got better but I think it's heading in a bad direction, a more indifferent and cold direction. I don't think the people are as willing to go to war for example - I'd like to think that's because we're turning away from violence and exploitation but I am afraid that we just don't care about what's happening to other people.

That's a possibility but maybe it won't come to that if we never make SKYNET.
