Firefox Goes To the Bigots

I posted this somewhere else here. I belong to a dating site. I tried to go there yesterday and this is the message I got:
Hello there, Mozilla Firefox user. Pardon this interruption of your OkCupid experience.

Mozilla’s new CEO, Brendan Eich, is an opponent of equal rights for gay couples. We would therefore prefer that our users not use Mozilla software to access OkCupid.

Politics is normally not the business of a website, and we all know there’s a lot more wrong with the world than misguided CEOs. So you might wonder why we’re asserting ourselves today. This is why: we’ve devoted the last ten years to bringing people—all people—together. If individuals like Mr. Eich had their way, then roughly 8% of the relationships we’ve worked so hard to bring about would be illegal. Equality for gay relationships is personally important to many of us here at OkCupid. But it’s professionally important to the entire company. OkCupid is for creating love. Those who seek to deny love and instead enforce misery, shame, and frustration are our enemies, and we wish them nothing but failure.

If you want to keep using Firefox, the link at the bottom will take you through to the site.

However, we urge you to consider different software for accessing OkCupid:

So, the homophobes, bigot CEO's personal position on gay rights is going to hurt the company. Pathetic

Why are a you starting a new thread about this? Why not just keep posting in the original one?

Hes got Chik-Fil-A on the brain apparently.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-01-2014 10:29 AM

I have no idea what that is but it sounds vile & cheap.

That's a surprisingly accurate description of it.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-01-2014 10:32 AM

I refuse to eat any food where the title of it has been abbreviated, hyphened or gimmicked.

ahem.

Also, I think you're confusing KFC with Chik-Fil-A, the former is vile and cheap.

They're both vile and cheap, along with Popeyes.

Chick-Fil-A, the most profitable fast food chicken corporation in the United States and probably the world but I don't feel like looking any of this up.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-01-2014 10:53 AM

Well I doubt I'm showing them anything if their nearest branch is something like 5000 miles away from me.

Well that's too bad because you're missing out.

I was just referring to how it makes me laugh when people make stances like "I will never ever shop at Wal-Mart because fuk corporate America!!!" despite the fact that said stance does not matter at all to Wal-Mart because they will make their billions anyway, hence my sarcastic: "Yeah that'll show 'em!!", meaning the Chick-Fil-A franchise as a whole.

Janszoon 04-01-2014 11:00 AM

Urban, you're really missing out on some horrible food that will give you the shits, you really need to fly over here and try some Chick-Fil-A.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-01-2014 11:01 AM

It's got nothing to do with corporate stances or anything like that.

I don't eat from fast food places, I don't buy ready meals or gimmicky meals because they tend to be processed foods full of salt & poor quality ingredients. I prefer to make my food from scratch.

Hello, we're supposed to be talking about FireFox and a dating site.

YorkeDaddy 04-01-2014 11:02 AM

Well that's admirable and I wish I could do that too, but I'm pretty damn poor so some McDonald's every now and then is actually out of necessity sometimes.

I can buy a big bag of rice that'll last me a week, even if I have it everyday for the price of a McDonalds meal.

Ok. In the future though, if you want a thread moved or want off-topic posts removed from a thread just ask a mod (anyone whose name is in blue like mine) and we'll be happy to do those things for you. No need to create duplicate threads.

Well when I'm in between classes and I'm tired of eating bagged cold meat sandwiches and granola bars that are basically candy bars, I generally head to the nearest McDonald's/Subway.

So that's probably some very mediocre reasoning actually.

 Either you simply don't know that you shouldn't make duplicate threads, or you did know and made it anyway, either way though this statement was hilarious.

Bold, very bold.

As a fellow college student, I absolutely know where you are coming from.

My thoughts too. If he thought it fit better in here, why not ask for it to be moved? Bit pointless starting the whole thing off again...

Given our current argument this is a hilariously harsh statement to me. Thank you. I bet stoned feels very welcomed.

@Wpnfire: life's rough bruh

Regarding the actual topic at hand, I think everyone involved (both OK Cupid and Mozilla) is stupid.

Yeah. This hasn't been the best welcome. At HC, it's very common to pst the same thread in different forums. See which one does better. The political site always did the best. Sorry. I didn't know the rules here

I'm here for you, even if the rest of the forum doesn't care.

Conversely, you like to look for any opportunity to paint yourself as a victim to give you justification to attack someone's character. I'm not on your back, nobody's on your back, and it's ridiculous for you to think so. I have been nothing but respectful, unlike you, so relax for a second and realize that the post you made at the top of this page was extremely anti-welcoming, because first of all you have no idea if he has ever even BEEN on a forum, let alone being acquainted with the norms that people generally follow on one.

In an effort to remain on topic, I have a question for stoned: do you have a reason to be connected with OK Cupid in particular which has in turn fueled your frustration? Otherwise, there are a lot of dating sites out there that are probably equally usable, so why not just relocate to a different site?

If his gripe is with Firefox, why would he switch dating sites?

I guess I'm misreading him and it seemed to me like he was more frustrated that OK Cupid was trying to block access to Firefox users. Now that I'm re-reading that doesn't seem to be the case, so this is just an example of me looking stupid.

My reading comprehension needs help.

butthead aka 216 04-01-2014 02:11 PM

dont worry, OP didnt write in a very clear way and i made the same mistake. why is he mad at firefox when okcupid is the one who wants him to switch browers?? lol
