Oso, Washington's deadly mudslides much much worse than originally thought
When I first heard this news, there were three dead and several injured
Then there were eight dead. It's now up to fourteen *confirmed* dead, but HUNDREDS are missing. Rescuers now admit they are looking for almost 200 missing in killer US landslide: Officials doubt anyone else will be plucked alive from the mud after 14 bodies are found | Mail Online This is turning into the deadliest landslide in Washington State since the May 18th 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens Then, to make matters worse, heavy rains are expected tonight and tomorrow. This is a very tragic event. |

Washington: where tornadoes and hurricanes don't happen, but mudslides and volcanoes are ready to fuck your shit up with the slightest provocation.
Nature is terrifying. This winter scared me pretty well; I'm 100% apprehensive about Mt. Rainier, had a difficult time going outside after that helicopter incident, and this mudslide business .... ugh. NATURE. WHY.

Our planet is a changing, evolving body. The 2011 Megathrust Earthquake/Tsunami in Japan was a terrible human tragedy but that's how it (Japan) got there, separating from the Asian continent. The Puget Sound & Salish Sea is clearly a rift zone, and someday, possibly in our lifetime, there will be a seismic event that will be beyond our comprehension.

I live in Auckland and we have a risk of volcano's waking up but the likelyhood seems low. However with the moving plates and living magma could build up in pressure and cause a big disturbance. I seriously pray for the people and their families.

Yeah, this is sad. I heard something about kids returning to school and worried about their missing friends.

I knew you (Paul), Ki, and LadyIL are from Wa state and did check to see latest posts, with a sigh of relief, but I do have a good friend that lives near the area I haven't heard from. It's not like I talk to him everyday, so I'll just have to make the call sometime this afternoon.
A horrible event nonetheless.
