I think I'd rather just get arrested (though it's sort of silly to arrest someone for using LSD) than accidentally kill myself somehow.

Drunk drivers deserve the accidents they get into for being too stupid to realize that they shouldn't drive. It's unfortunate that there are innocent casualties involved at times, but still.

penalties should prob be harsher.

wouldnt give a life sentence tho in 99.9% of cases.

case by case basis of course. big difference between blowin a .28 crossin the high way median and blowin a .10 at 8 am the next day

Life sentences should only be given to people convicted of vehicular manslaughter. It's not really going to heal the pain they caused the family of an innocent person, but it'll keep them away from society.

You do have a point there, though. Every case is slightly different, but should always end in punishment. People are taught from childhood that this behavior is dangerous and stupid, and yet somehow they think "oh, I'll never get caught" or "I'm fine".

Everyone should have enough change to take a cab home and know when to say i'm not gonna drive. At the very least, go to a bar within walking distance. The bar should never be at fault for people that can stop drinking whenever they want.

i agree, i never said it was at fault. ya should always make arrangements to get home before ya start drinkin even if cabs arent an option. but dont tell me a breathalyzer at a bar wouldnt stop a good number of duis either

I honestly don't. People who are gonna drink rarely weigh consequences after they get loose. I think a cab or walking is always the best option. a breathalyzer at a bar would probably just be a game to see how intoxicated you can really get.

its not about a john daly wannaba gettin housed at the bar off of bud pounders then drivin home. he will regardless. but i really cant fathom how anyone could think that literally no ppl would be responsible enough to not drive if they knew their bac level. if it saved 1 dui from every bar in the country per year, that alone would be an astronomical number

Aren't there laws holding bartenders responsible for continuing to serve someone who's already had too much? I'm sure a lot of them don't follow the rule because it's easier to take advantage of someone eager to blame generous spending/tips on alcohol, but still. It's a brilliant idea to require a breathalyzer test. People shouldn't be getting wasted in public (it's illegal in itself - public intoxication, that is) in the first place but a lot of people mistake the act for "socializing".
