My whole family does it. I know parents of friends who have said it. It's just one of those things that I will never seize to hear until I tell them "oh yeah, I want to have kids" which will be never. And although i'm only 22, I think it's safe for me to say that I don't plan on having kids. If that's a problem and if people think i'm too young to make that decision, well that's too bad. I don't see how age will effect my decision.

Not a problem, Plank. I was just defending myself as I always do in heated debates.

Sure ya can justify but I think its for yourselves. Its when ppl are insecure wuth their choices. Of course ppl have a hard time admitting insecurities but I think that's a part of it

There are far more people who are negative against those who don't want kids, especially if they've had kids. 10% of the time a person who has a kid will tell you that it's ok not to have kids and you don't have to try. 90% of the time, they will tell you that you don't know what you're talking about. It is most certainly not equal.
that's in your experience.

I think you read over the part where I said it has been equal in MY experience.

I like you more and more everyday. Better keep this one, Ki, or the Love Vulture will swoop down and snag her from you.

It seems I have. My apologies on that one, I misread to begin with and just went off on what I assumed you said.

It's alright. You just need to sober up and feel better.

We all say and do silly things. Realising it is half the battle and you seem to have that part nailed.

This comment is not meant to be derogatory, but I've always thought of "having a child" as being right up there in the same mental-category as "committing murder".

(e.g I've sometimes considered it as an option, but realised that you would have to live with the consequences FOREVER. Once you've done it, you've done it! No going back!)

I don't think I could cope with (nor have the desire to) change my lifestyle in such a radical way. It took me 5 years before I would even commit to marriage!

I agree that there is an awful lot of 'social pressure', and (from my wife's family) that we have somehow 'failed' them, by not including THEIR aspirations in OUR decision!

I see 'not having children' as being every bit as natural as 'having children'. My wife once had a friend describe her decision as "selfish", which I thought was ironic as my wife is a teacher, and is pretty unselfish in helping to raise other people's children!

It's a simple case of "horses for courses". I can think of nothing worse than living in a world where we all wanted the same things!
