I don't really like children and don't wish to have them when I'm older and settled.... Yet even to me you're making them out to be like gremlins you accidentally poured water over and fed after midnight.

^ That´s a perceptive comment, FETCHER. A thread called "The many benefits of a child-free life" should devote more time to listing benefits, instead of grumbling away about babies. They certainly aren´t monsters and even at their most disagreeable, it might be as well to remember, "OK, I was once like that too - I´m going to give that little creature some leeway."
To take my own advice, some benefits of a child-free life might be money, peace and freedom from some responsibilities, I guess, although I personally have sacrificed some of those in favour of a child-full life. ^ Thanks, Plankton. You gave a great description of a turning point in life that many proud fathers never forget.

the prerequisites to any sort of return from unnecessary breeding are just too unpleasant, though. Why bother with a child, which you have to tend to pretty much 24/7 for years and years on end when you can just get a cat or any other creature that'll clean its own ass, eat what it's given, and be cute regardless of what they do?
