Default Typhoon Haiyan

Typhoon Haiyan (locally known as Yolanda) slammed into the Philippines on Friday (8 November), causing catastrophic damage. It is the strongest storm ever to make landfall, hitting an area where thousands of people are already homeless after an earthquake in mid-October. The devastating cyclone Haiyan has ravaged with wind speeds reaching a record high and mighty destructive power over the Philippines. The peak wind speeds of Haiyan were at 275 kilometers per hour, well above the threshold for dangerous typhoon category. Haiyan was accompanied by heavy rains and gigantic storm surges from the Pacific Ocean, and is considered the most severe cyclone in the Philippines within the past 30 years.

The 300-mile wide typhoon has left a trail of destruction with thousands dead and many more injured and displaced. The full extent of the damage will become clearer in the next few days as rescue teams reach the more remote areas.

Rescue and relief operations have begun. However, there is still more work to be done and a lot more still need help.
