Like I said he's there to rob you, not kill you but the fact he has a gun suggests that he could if he was pushed, I'd rather not push.

in those situations it would be. anyone at anytime could be a victim of such circumstance. if you took 100 different situations where someone with a gun was trying to murder you, you would likely be killed 100 out of 100 times if you didnt have a gun. i dont think it would be 100 out of 100 if you had your own gun.

we are limiting things to a very specific scenario. but probably 100,000+ times a year ppl use a gun for self defense.

They're limited because those are the 3 most obvious options.
You don't think I'm going to advertise the fact I'm going to do it first do you?

No I would imagine they're just stolen from ones that are.
Hence less legal guns, less illegal ones too.

The only way there would be less legal guns at this stage in the game is if they started taking them away from people that already had them. That's my point about how saturated our culture already is with guns.

Also guns are trafficked across the border so it's not all stolen ones.

Stricter gun control is only making it harder for honest citizens that just want to protect themselves to get the guns.

The ones being used for a large majority of homicides aren't from people that get them through legal means.

Right now there are legal guns, legal guns that are sold or stolen, and black market guns.

You take away the legal guns and all that's left are the black market ones. It shouldn't be too tough drawing the conclusion that firearms would be scarcer for criminals as well under strict gun control

And with Mexico and Canada bordering us (both with strict gun laws of their own), there is no direct easy access to bringing them into the country

you certainly wouldn't have any of these white, middle class suburban teens shooting up schools with their dad's Beretta

No one said it would be an easy or immediate process, they would have to be filtered out over a long period of time.

fair enough

but i think holding a club or bat would be a risky move into the 'is this enough to push him to kill me' area. having no weapon would, again, leave my fate 100% in his hands.

maybe we are talkin about different things. im sayin we are limiting gun use to a few select hypothetical situations in this thread. mainly breaking and entering crimes. using the lower end of estimates, 65k+ a yr use guns in self defense, point being theres plenty of different situations where you need to defend yourself

even if you would choose to not have a gun to defend yourself and would prefer a baseball bat or whatever, i would be fine with that. i would think thats not wise, but would not support any laws that would restrict you from doin exactly that. what about u?? would u want to restrict me in owning a gun?

No but there's only so much the government can do about them. black market guns exist now and they would exist in a hypothetical stricter gun control society too

yea i agree. i guess i thought u were sayin that with less legal guns there would be less illegal guns (which is true but not worth it in my opinion - it wouldnt be balanced) and that removing legal guns would somehow be a good thing. i dunno i wasnt followin your thoughts very well

Another thing that would happen is having less legal guns would create a greater demand for those that used to be able to get guns and it would have a similar effect that prohibition had.

Given the choice between a gun and a cricket or baseball bat, I'll take the bat every time, much easier & much simpler to use..

I can hit a douchebag. Of course, it helps that I've the chokes set up on my O&U so that I get a spread superior to that of a sawed off.
