The U.S.'s homicide rate is 4x that of the U.K.'s. No doubt partially contributed to by ease of access to firearms

Do I think gun control would eliminate firearm homicides entirely? Of course not. Do lax gun laws do more harm than good? Absolutely.

I have no issue with fixing the gun laws that are in place but you just threw up a stats chart without saying anything much relating to it. So I didn't know your position if you were one of those radicals that want to attempt to ban all firearms just because it works for other countries.

so i can file a police report and hope i get some of my stuff back? good chance i am never seein my stuff again once he leaves my home, even if he is eventually caught. police dont usually stop crimes in progress, they show up after its been committed

we are really talkin about a specific hypothetical the last few responses. lets say someone had the intention or murdering me for whatever reason. he has a gun and comes into my home. do you think i should be allowed to have a gun as well to defend myself?

No i'm not.
I'm saying you're probably less likely to be shot yourself if you have a baseball bat rather than a gun.
A baseball bat says to an intruder I'm going to defend myself if I have to
A gun says I can kill you.

I just don't see how putting your life on the line is worth it for materialistic items. If the robber is strapped too, there's a very good chance you'll be the one shot dead

Would a person intent on murdering you make his presence known to you if there was a possibility you were armed? You might not even have the opportunity to grab your gun

You also have to take into account it would be harder for that person to obtain a firearm in the first place as well.

But in reality that would probably be one unfortunate situation where you would be worse off with stricter gun control. In the big picture I'd expect a drop in homicides

I would knock on the door, wait for you to answer it and then blow you away.Or go to the window, see where you are and fire through that.

Or just wait for you to come outside.

Either way having a gun yourself is totally useless

I don't think that would be the case. Not with how saturated our environment already is with guns.

Stricter gun control is only making it harder for honest citizens that just want to protect themselves to get the guns.

The ones being used for a large majority of homicides aren't from people that get them through legal means.

No I would imagine they're just stolen from ones that are.
Hence less legal guns, less illegal ones too.

so vs a guy with a gun you would rather have a bat than a gun of your own because your chance of being shot would decrease. i dont believe it would, but even so, if you have a club and not a gun, your fate totally lies in his hands. a gun gives you the chance to take fate into your own hands. and when it comes down to it, i want my fate to be determined by me and not the crazy guy with a gun who just broke into my home.

in those situations it would be. anyone at anytime could be a victim of such circumstance. if you took 100 different situations where someone with a gun was trying to murder you, you would likely be killed 100 out of 100 times if you didnt have a gun. i dont think it would be 100 out of 100 if you had your own gun.

we are limiting things to a very specific scenario. but probably 100,000+ times a year ppl use a gun for self defense.
