If you don't like it, you have the power to not listen to it. You won't ever be able to control what others say, but to some extent you can control what you hear, by not associating with people who are verbally abusive, not listening to comedy where you're likely to hear insensitive humor, etc.
What do you think should be done about it? There will always be insensitive pricks out there who think that it's socially acceptable to say they're going to rape you, or to call you the N-word. A lot of teens say it now, or at least they did when I was going to school. It was supposed to be funny to say that you're going to rape someone's face. It isn't funny, it's actually very lame, but it also isn't really that offensive IMO. If you think it's offensive, speak up. If the person who said it keeps it up, that's harassment. |

Trollheart and chameleon I don't even get the anger in the tones of your posts for gods sake. Read the posts I said how I think id feel and react. Can I have an opinion on hitler dven tho I ain't german or jew.... can I have opinions on adoption tho I've never adopted??? Where are u guys drawin this stupid line????? I stand by that opinion in that example so just get off your high horses or whatever towards me. I don't think I've dver taken somethin said at a bar as serious. In that case no I don't think id consider tgat person a threat. I might have an ibstinctive reaction but in a min I would use logic over emotion and realize he is jo threat and obviously jokin.
Tired of this crap where I have to be raped to speak about it just gimme a break. Xant speak on blacks or women or gays or mexicans or etc etc. Cram it up you cramhole lafleur |

216, I removed you from my ignore list, you are pretty much saying what I want to say in some cases.
I really don't understand why some people are attacking other people in this thread. Yes, some of you guys have gone through some personal issues, but is that really solving the issue of making jokes about certain things? It's just giving people more of a reason to believe that only people with personal issues can cause an issue about offensive jokes, whereas those who haven't aren't allowed to. If someone made an offensive joke about legally blindness (because i'm legally blind), I wouldn't give a ****, but if I make a joke about gay people or rape, suddenly it's an issue. Where do we cross the line, if we even need to? Does it make you any less offensive if you make offensive jokes just because you've gone through more personal issues? |

The person that the incident happens to is the person that gets to decide if they find it offensive or not. Just like you have decided that jokes about being legally blind or blind type of jokes won't affect you. that is your personal decision.

Why would you not have the right to be offended by the joke and tell the guy? I think if offended people could just start wearing panties that would be very helpful. Thanks |

That's totally fine. But i'm asking if it's the responsibility of the person telling the joke to feel bad about telling the joke prior to knowing it was going to offend anyone. It could have easily just been a silly retort, but as soon as somebody is offended, apparently it's a big issue, which I don't understand.
