So if at one point it did offend me, and at another point it doesn't, that still doesn't give me the right to make the person telling the joke to feel bad about saying the joke to begin with. So like I said, is it really fair?

That's totally fine. But i'm asking if it's the responsibility of the person telling the joke to feel bad about telling the joke prior to knowing it was going to offend anyone. It could have easily just been a silly retort, but as soon as somebody is offended, apparently it's a big issue, which I don't understand.
