It's just another routine Police crackdown, they've always been this heavy handed.

On a larger picture, although the EU isn't as credible around the globe as one would hope, such timely events in Turkey does make it an uninspired candidate for membership.

Yes, cynicism does lurk and we risk the lazy conclusion of "back to normal" eventually, which is, well, just tarrying the predicament. Those who did die will most certainly end up being forgotten (having not really being known to begin with) and the permanent nerve and organ damages due to excessive use of tear gas would end up being wiped out of the record. Turning a park into a shopping mall (or whatever it was) might seem inconspicuous enough, but the protest is a microcosm of a larger discontent, that of having a tendency for authoritative and centralized power. People need to be fired and things need to change immediately - such use of force by the police is unacceptable, regardless of how rowdy the mob might have gotten.

A dog becomes the victim of the tear gas. Turkish protesters help him. - Imgur

Got to me more than seeing all the human victims of the crackdown.

I would riot too if I lived under the rule of a religious freak of a Prime Minister who says things like "anyone who drinks alcohol is an alcoholic"

I'm not surprised at this either.

Yes they have, I have known a number of Turkish and Kurdish people here in London over the years that have said so.

Well they aren't in Turkey now, are they, and they haven't been participating in the protests for the past 12 days, either, I imagine.
