A briefcase?! Man that guy needs to get with times and get a shoulder satchel.

Or a man bag.

I know this is unrelated to the OP but when my family were in Russia to adopt my little sister, the people were incredibly rude This was about... 15 years ago I'd say. They don't hold the door open for you, we were shocked at this. I mean, people over in Ireland are ridiculous sometimes and almost over polite(thanking bus drivers and smiling and nodding at strangers in the street) but they were the complete opposite over in russia, closed the door in my seven year old face.

Are you serious? What the hell am I doing in New Zealand, it seems like a lot of western countries have respect for each other. I have to walk down Auckland's main street in the city daily and I get bumped into many times because people are selfish and won't move for you, even though you are walking on the left which I was brought up to do. Not only that people are looking down on their cellphones, groups of people walking all horizontally blocking everyone else out or standing there chatting and not giving a damn. ARGHGGHHHGH!!!! It gets me so frustrated. It's not that bad in Christchurch or Dunedin, but the population is way smaller there. I ****ing hate Auckland.

No, the Irish are just unusually polite about those things. Urban Britain is about as rude as it gets. I'm pretty sure my current hometown was voted the rudest place in Europe recently or something.

I'm unintentionally rude in public places, because I'm so damn nervous. I'm pretty sure I'm not Russian, they tend to not give a **** about anything, including deadly flaming rocks falling from the atmosphere.

Yeah, Auckland is world famous for being a rude city. Actually it's not famous for anything because no one gives a **** about Auckland. How's that for polite? ;)

Yeah exactly! I only moved up here because of the earthquake. I think in the next two years I'll end up saving to move to Australia. Apparently Melbourne is an amazing city. But I better not go off topic!

I wouldn't worry about it though, New Zealand is amazing, I have a load of good mates who have moved over there for better lives. Ireland is a bit dead career wise at the moment(which leaves room for cultural and artistic development though!)

I was in London only recently at it wasn't so bad. I mean you do get odd looks on the Underground sometimes, people don't seem to look at you in the eye or smile or nod when you pass them. I nodded at an African-English guy while walking home on the east end and he looked at me like is was a gay alien terrorist or something.

London isn't normally too bad because it's multi-cultural as hell, so you get a fairly even mix of complete twats and people from countries that know how to be decent human beings. Cities like Birmingham seem to assimilate the social aspects of all cultures into the British one.
