I posted this on FB last night and it will continue to be true.
"this whole marriage equality thing has taught me one thing: there are a lot of misinformed/ignorant people in this world. Seriously, it doesn't affect you in any way, so get over it." |

Eight of my Facebook friends posted the same excerpts from the "good book."
EIGHT. Each one was this same exact quote: Matthew 19:4 - 19:6 4. And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5. And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6. Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. THAT ****ING VERSE IS ABOUT DIVORCE YOU ****HOLES! IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GAY MARRIAGE YOU ****ING MORONS! The next few verses: 7. They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? 8. He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. 9. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. I want to troll the **** out of their posts, but I just leave it be. I want to scold their reading comprehension, but I stay quiet. I want to ridicule them and point out what a ****ing joke they are, but I hold my tongue. It's ridiculous.

It is. But more to the point, it's irrelevant to US law. A law can't be based on the Christian bible any more than it can be based on the Koran or the Torah or the Bhagavad Gita. Ours is a secular system of government. If that ever changes, I'm moving 2 hours north to Vancouver. |

I wish that voting on something like this had something like when you're selected to jury duty. If you've got any sort of emotional attachment or experience that could sway you, you're off the jury. I.e.: If you refuse to separate church and state, then **** you *******: You don't have a vote.

That would, however, only take place if there were an attempt at a constitutional amendment IIRC. |

My region of Kentucky would still vote 'yes.' We're inexplicably liberal. Or, at least my precinct. It's a town just outside of Ashland, KY which seems to be blue all the way - maybe they think that voting blue extends their University of Kentucky allegiance - we bleed blue and all of that - but this tiny area votes liberal all the way.
I did, actually receive some hate mail, even borderline death threats when I was in "The Laramie Project" in this town, and Fred Phelps, having exhausted his military protests, decided to protest us as well. But weirdly, that was more main city than the rural community I live in.

I would consider being picketed by the cowardly Westboro Baptist Church a badge on honor. In fact I do. I participated in the 2011 "Slutwalk Seattle" and they were there, although as you can see in this image they had their pathetic asses figuratively kicked in by several *good-hearted* Christians who supported the march |

My parents had never mentioned their thoughts either way, but I immediately feared they were leaning towards Fred Phelps. So, my coming out came some time later, in the form of a letter, left on my mom's windshield before she went to work. And that wasn't my first encounter with Mr. Phelps; Boyd County High School - I reside in Boyd County - started a 'gay straight alliance' some years back, and we actually got out of school, even though it wasn't our district, to either protest or allow 'traffic to slow down.' I chose to protest.
