Justice for the Magdalene women
Kenny apologises to Magdalene Laundries survivors - RTÉ News
I guess a late apology is better than none. Christ, the lives some of these women endured, most for no reason other than it was the easiest thing to do for their families! Makes me ashamed to be Irish! Thank god they'll be at least compensated now and the stigma lifted, even if for some of them it's already too late.

Don't pin the blame entirely on the Irish. We Brits were the first guys to start building the damn things and we presumably inspired the first ones in Ireland. But yeah, the kind of conduct in those places was horrific and the women stuck in them certainly deserve some kind of compensation for them. I always assumed these places were dead and gone before I was born but according to Wikipedia the last one got shut down in 1996, which is just despicably bad. I guess it's nice to pretend that torture and slavery close to home didn't continue all the way into our own lives.

A dark period in our history. Never to be seen again.
