Blade Runner up for murder
Surprised there isn't already a thread on this to be honest...
Athlete Oscar Pistorius charged with murder - RTÉ News Anyone opinions on whether he's guilty, and if so, will be get off because he's a celeb (also disabled) or will South Africa be the sort of place that would have sent OJ to prison for life? Will celebrity gain him special privileges, or will the police/govt be anxious to show they're being fair and unbiased?

I'll be interested to find out how you accidentally shoot someone 4 times.
Apparently he's currently on suicide watch at the moment.

I heard about this and there are some really sick jokes going around about it, like really pathetic jokes. Apparently a lot of people in South Africa have guns for protection, but why shoot through the door without knowing exactly what was behind it?

Yeah. If you think an intruder's in your house, your first reaction would not be to shoot them. Surely you'd warn them: "I've got a gun!" or something? Plus reports say there were the sounds of an argument earlier. Think he's toast. You'd have to wonder though. The guy was dealt a raw hand and did really well with it, why **** it up by doing something he knew he was never going to get away with? Sports icons, huh?

This man has a history of treating women badly. It's not an accident imo, all the evidence points to murder. The police said they were surprised to hear reports of it being mistaken identity and the fact they arrested him and had him charged so quickly speaks volumes. Would the po-po also refuse bail if Oscar's version of events added up? |

Well they refused bail I assume because he's a flight risk and you could be sure he would run if he is guilty. As to the "shoot first" thing, yeah I know what you're saying but if you came downstairs and found an intruder in your house and had a gun, would you just shoot him or would you at least shout "Hey! What the **** are you doing? I have a gun pointed at you so don't make any funny moves!" (and then realise you're NOT in a movie or on TV, but you see where I'm going) --- you don't just shoot someone. What if THEY weren't armed? Or were a vagrant or a drunk who mistook your house for theirs?
You have a right to defend yourself but I doubt any court would support shoot-first policy (maybe Texas; no, definitely Texas!) and who in their right mind would shoot through a door??

Good point w/ the bail actually. Tbh the comments from the police are the most damning. The rumours that this was a Valentine's Day surprise gone wrong came from the media and not them. I'll be surprised if this turns out to be an accident. |

Okay, this is what I don't get. Neighbour says she heard shouting all day from the house, then defence says she couldn't have as her house is too far away from BR's (about 600 metres --- IS that too far? If someone's shouting and banging walls etc could you not hear from that distance?) and now they're saying they can't prove he didn't put on his legs before going to the bathroom to "challenge the intruder" --- how else would he have got there?
And the latest is that the prosecutor admits that he can't find any fault with what Pistorius says he did; he can't prove he's lying. Is this guy gonna get away with this? (again)
