Westboro Baptist Church
Why are the Westboro are so nasty and hateful? Isn't being a Christian about loving thy name? Check out their signs below. What shocks me is they turn up to honourable Army funerals and say they deserved the death as punishment by God.

Being a good Christian only applies when you want it to tbh.
Do they still get away with this? I saw both of the documentaries with Louis Theroux and can't recall them ever being stopped by authorities. They will claim they are within their rights, it's freedom of speech etc. There is freedom of speech and then there is just trying to hurt others; they should be free to show the world how stupid and disgusting they are but they shouldn't be allowed to chant abuse outside soldiers' funerals; they could pick any location in America yet they constantly choose to wind up the families of dead soldiers. It's antagonistic and it's not freedom of speech. It's wrong to use freedom of speech as a smokescreen to get away with saying whatever you like. |

Honestly I've given up trying to figure out what the end goal for the Westboro Baptist Church is other than be the most despicable religious group in America. I'm honestly surprised they haven't been killed yet, what kind of country are we living in where someone thinks it's a good idea to shoot a bunch of children, but we allow these wastes of cum picket funerals.

You guys see the link I posted on another thread about them gettin there ass handed to them in Mississippi last week? The cops and everyone were in on it and they never had a chance to start their crap. There were rumors of them picketing a funeral here in Texas in Austin next week. Also reportedly the Hells Angels are suppose to form a human wall to keep the peace.
Ok I just went and found the link http://www.ihatethemedia.com/a-simpl...ral-protesters

There will always be nutjobs, always be people who believe in something different, whether or not you think it is right. These people are sick...sure, but there are far worse out there.

Between the Napoleon Dynamite reference and her texting with the innocence of a normal middle school girl, I couldn't help but laugh hysterically.
Also, I usually don't care for Michael Moore, but he did good in this bit: Other than these anecdotes, there isn't much more to tell. They're a one-dimensional hate-group that abuses the first amendment like Fluffy has stated. I'm honestly surprised that there hasn't been more beat-downs during soldier funeral protests; I doubt any jury would convict the assailant. Not that I'm endorsing throwing gas on the fire, but still.

The mentality behind WBC is really easy to understand. It's hard to agree with, but I don't understand why people find it crazy that people suscribe to such extreme positions.
It starts young. Look at how many kids are taking part in this sort of thing. Their own parents and mentors are pedaling this crap, and guess what happens when you grow up in a home that advocates hatred? Go ahead.. guess... I think the the only variable here is whether people eventually grow up and decide to be objective enough to really look at their beliefs and the effects of them that dictates whether they will continue to hold them or not. But I do think that the environment these people grow up in has a lot to do with what puts them there in the first place. Obviously, if all these people grew up in a household that taught tolerance and understanding, they wouldn't be doing what they're doing. I think these are just the people that were blind enough and, dare I say unintelligent enough, to not be able to move beyond their background for the sake of the welfare of humanity as a whole. Instead, they're comfortable being ignorant and hateful, because hey, "god" is on their side and they grew up thinking this was it. Religious people in general aren't much different in their beliefs. They're just on a different scale.
