Racist* woman gets punched on UK train (tube)

Video doing the rounds in England at the moment.

*Not sure if racist or people just looking for racism.

Here's the video anyway:

Both the woman and the lad exchange insults, the video cuts then starts again as the lad punches her twice and accuses her of throwing a bottle at him.

What's people's opinions?

Personally I think they're both idiots before any punches had been thrown but if she did throw a bottle at him then you can't really complain when you catch return fire I guess, whether excessive or not.

Never been to London to be fair, however you do see some characters on British public transport.

In Birmingham once, Boxing Day 2006-ish, I got on a bus to a round of applause from a drunk middle aged Irishman, he then shouted "finally, it's not an African"

Also saw a lad go mad at a white boy for wearing Timberland shoes (lynching tree logo or something or other) once as I was going through Aston on a bus. Come to think of it I have seen bloody loads of blatant racism where I live.

What did the woman do that was racist? I just heard a barely decipherable argument with no context then saw a teenage hothead start punching her. Unless there's something I'm missing it's pretty clear to me who should be headed to jail.

"I dress poor so I don't get robbed by motherfuckers like you and smelly fucking Nigerians."

He called her a "white princess" and "Kate Middleton".

Up to the individual to decide whether those comments are racist. There is definite xenophobia in the Nigeria comment so I wouldn't put it past her meaning black people with the 'motherfuckers like you' comment.

EDIT - Forgot to add, the 'racist' is there as I lifted the headline from the Daily Mail (UK tabloid reporting this story) so that's why I put the asterisk there.

I actually thought she looked biracial so that certainly makes the situation weirder. Anyway, even assuming she's a horrible racist bitch, he's still in the wrong for hitting her.

I really don't want to choose sides. It is really hard to hear anything said between all the rustling of the newspapers and clickety clack of the train. The announcer announcing "The next station is Moorgate." It made it really difficult to hear. You would think if people on the subway when they see somebody whip out their i-pod to record an incident they would had enough decency to hush up, and put down the news papers and what not, and wtf is up with the guy and the orange bags, get out of the way some serious **** is going down and your blocking the veiw. What up wit dat?

But didn't she say her boyfriend was black, and she gets pegged as a racist? When he press her whether she was black or not, she said it didn't matter and her before accepted her the way she dresses. It seem if he was instagating the whole thing, complaining how she dress then at one point slams Americans something about their antiques, clearly he is the bad guy. I think they got it wrong he is the bigotted anti-American misogynist. These video footage clips are all the same, badly shot, terrible sound and often just join in the middle of what was going on, so we never get the true story and yes she did say her boyfriend was black. The UK still has a big problem with institutional racism, where people still make sweeping statements based on colour or race, but these people often never identify themselves as ever being racist and indeed may actually have friends and collegues of a different colour.
