Guys like this would still possess guns, because you aren't gonna go into someones house and audit their gun collection.
At the very least, we will know anyone with a gun should be arrested.

You can't tell me that strict gun laws won't at least diminish the rate of gun related crimes a bit.

Well, if others feel the same then I would be happy to.

I think discussing the implications of how and why this happened while we all respect that this was a horribly tragic event is still ok, though.

Why? It's completely relevant to this.
I think you've proven my point. Why should a rational person such as myself be told I can't own a gun. The unstable guy mentally is gonna find another way to do harm to people, and people who want to own a gun illegally will do so.

Well of course sheer mathematics would dictate that less guns or no guns equal less gun related crime. So does that mean we move onto knives next and any appliances that can cause harm because the lack of a gun created a demand in knives?

This is American arrogance at its finest. What makes you think anyone deserves to have a gun? Because it's in the constitution? This is a device designed to kill people. If we are talking personal protection, there are plenty of effective non lethal alternatives these days.

I really apologize if this comes off like I'm attacking you...I'm not calling you arrogant, just the idea itself. I just really can't help feeling empathy for all these people anytime something like this happens...it really pisses me off just because of how pointless it all is.

I'm through with discussing the sure to come gun law propaganda and it certainly is tragic and harrowing to know that people can do this to one another.

A lot of these guys are loner shut-ins, what makes you so sure it'll be so easy for them to get their hands on guns if they aren't available to the public?

Just because you can feign mental stability up until ownership doesn't mean ****e. The dude who killed the people at batman premiere seemed normal, you can watch video's of him lecturing his classmates. It's easier to just eliminate guns then try to judge mental health on an individual basis.

Mental Unstable guy might find a way to harm people, but at least make him work for it. Chances are he won't be able to stab two dozen people before being stopped.

Its hard to speculate on preventative measures America could take to try an eradicate tragedies like this. I don't think there really are any and that's the sad part. As long as there are deranged people like this in the world these kind of senseless acts will continue to transpire. I'm sure there is more to this story than what's leaked out, and at what point do people not raise their awareness that the potential for a devastating occurrence like this is likely? Humanity is unpredictable and that makes this world a scary place for those of us who worry about the well being of the ones we love the most.
