Just thinking out loud here.
In this guy's case it certainly sounds like what's going on.

I didn't know you can just get laid off like that over there. Don't you have unions and workers rights?

I was seriously disappointed when I read this article and it wasn't in fact about a baby that had somehow inherited a company, and then been used as a puppet to fire it's workers.

We have unions, but they're not always effective and not everyone is in one. Considering this Murray's political views, his mines are probably non-union. We have workers' right as well, but they're not particularly effective at preventing the big guy from screwing over the little guy.

Doesn't suprise me at all...I was told before the election by several oil and gas drilling companies that they were on a hiring freeze till after the election. Thats the case for a lot of buisness's around my area of all kinds. People aren't wanting to take any chances with Obama back in office and are cutting back or simply not expanding.

Sorry for the thread necro, but...

Coal baron Murray, a Trump ally who fought environmental regulation, dead at 80
Quote:
Murray retired on Oct. 19 after 63 years in the coal business, shortly after applying for federal benefits to treat his black lung disease, a respiratory illness caused by prolonged exposure to coal dust, according to a report by West Virginia public radio.

A colorful and outspoken leader of the Ohio company he founded, Murray Energy, Murray blamed environmental regulation for the demise of the coal industry and opposed more stringent coal dust regulations for years.

I'm just going to assume that Black Lung is a bad way to go and raise a beer to coal dust.
