Percentage wise I agree, but actual tally numbers, that is quite a large number, at over 3 million and they actually havent finished counting because Romney conceded and admitted defeat before it was finished

But percentages are what's actually relevant because it shows context.

Okay I get you about the context

but just saying, to reach 3 million more people to vote in your favor, although considerably a small percentage of America, is still an impressive feat

No, it's not. If you look at the American population it's slim pickings.

Think of it like a MMA or combat match then.... it all comes down to who does the extras that gets the win

It is like the Sonnen vs Silva fight where Sonnen was grinding Silva out and then round 5 Silva knocks him silly and then throws in the triangle arm bar for the W

3 million is a lot of people and getting even one person to vote is hard work, let alone 3 million

and if the percentage is what bugs you, well Obama did that lil extra that got him the W, more electoral votes and the popular vote

But it really is stuff all difference. The percentage is what is relevant which you can't argue with. It's what makes it contextual to past elections for example.

Dude, 3 million is 1% of America's population. That's peanuts. I don't see why you don't understand this.

For the first time today, I saw a UK newspaper from Monday that had a map of how the voting was expected to go in each state. Romney had like 80% of these states with Obama the rest. I thought what, how can Obama win!!! Then I saw it was done by seats (or whatever you call it there) and states like California, New York and Illinois had a huge amount of these seats (California 55 I think) compared to say states like Montana (3 I think). Which leads me to think, that the key is to win in the really big states in terms of population and power and add a few others etc and you're guaranteed victory. Is the Presidential race as easy as I just described or not?

The electoral vote is based on population density you're correct.

The key is to win the bigger swing states like Florida and Ohio because the states with the largest numbers of electoral votes tend to lean heavily toward one party or the other (i.e. California is pretty reliably Democrat, Texas is pretty reliably Republican).
