Now, if you're asking why people in the Republican Party oppose abortion, I'd say:

-people who strongly support or oppose abortion rights tend to exist in self-imposed cultural segregation.... meaning a sort of epistemic closure. Liberalism allows this & capitalism facilitates it, allowing for two people who've grown up in the same city & lived their entire lives there to develop radically different value sets from items as diverse & wide ranging as their touch stones for what is good art, who the best authors are, & - you know - basic components of morality such as "what is murder?".... Liberalism & Capitalism allow these folks to both coexist & be in good standing in their society.

-it's hard to coherently argue against the tenets of conservative christianity when one is simultaneously arguing for multiculturalism
