I just sit back now and laugh because when I think about all those women getting raped at this very instant around the world, I can't help but get the biggest grin on my face. It's awesome. I don't even think Daniel Tosh is funny but at least he knows good humor when he hears it.

This "incident" would only be controversial if it had ended up with the girl actually getting pounced on and raped by five guys in the audience and Tosh continued making rape jokes. Which, of course, would never happen.
It was a comedy show. Tosh got heckled and responded. That's how comedians deal with hecklers. edit: I just thought of a good rape joke he could make in the scenario I created above. He could say "hey look at that, she's getting it in every orifice and there's five guys so they must have created some new ones" and then take a few beats while the rest of the audience roars with laughter. Now, if that had been how the story played out it would be time for introspection and reevaluation of our morals. But what actually happened is barely worth discussing.

Comedians serve a purpose to their audiences by enabling catharsis. If you are just plain offended by any talk of taboos then you probably don't want or need this type of catharsis. But comedians like Tosh are successful because a lot of people want (and possibly need) to be able to laugh at the most disgusting, most foul things that our world has to offer. Does Tosh really "like" rape? No. Does Louie CK actually hate his daughter and think that it's okay to rape people because they won't willingly have sex with you? Of course not. But joking about those things is funny. It makes me laugh. This art form is a cure for misery, like it or not. It's not real. It's entertainment. To me (and apparently millions of other people who don't actually approve of rape or racism or sexism) it's an important form of entertainment. It chases away bad feelings in a unique way and the best comedians are actually incredibly sensitive people if you look deeply into the culture of their profession. That's why I think this Tosh thing is bullshit. It happens all the time. He didn't just totally lose his **** like the Seinfeld guy did and that's an important distinction. That guy got so mad at a heckler that he went on a verbal rampage like someone with road rage. Tosh may have become angry at the woman but he responded in a way that's in accordance with the way comedians work. If his TV show is cancelled it will be because the network carrying it loses money over this. That's the only reason. To me, that's more offensive than rape jokes.

I'm more disgusted by how politically correct everything seems to be nowadays than anything I've ever heard a comedian say. It's like people want to be offended, just so they can tell everyone they're offended and feel important, and, oh, it's a big scandal.
**** that woman, and **** political-correctness. In the context of comedy or the arts especially, I'd say. If you don't want to be offended in some respect, don't go to comedy shows. Stay in your house, because you're a sad-sack piece of ****, and a lot of people would probably prefer that you did.

Don't you love it when people say, "I'm offended"... as though that settles or solves anything? Srsly. High five.

I'll trust you. It's obvious that he's more intelligent than most of his audience. And more wealthy than most of the people he makes fun of. That's kind of his thing, no?
