Are people born gay?

I've been wondering about this question ever since I found out my own sexuality. Of course, I am not very knowledgeable in the area of biology, so I figured I would ask the people of this site for their opinions.

If you have any opinions on the matter and have knowledge of this, then please back them up by sources. Also... try to be civil.

Thank you. :)

Obviously?

People are definitely born gay.

Okay, is there any valid scientific research to back up this claim?

No, homosexuality is a corruption of the devil.

Sadly some people think this is true. Had a big argument about this with some bible thumping Friends. I was really shocked to see that some young people in this day and age still think like that.

I don't have a reference to back this up as I learned about it as an undergrad, but there is a male determining gene on the Y chromosome and some research has shown that gene is missing/not highly expressed in homosexuals. This gene also has a link to testosterone levels, so this fits with what someone said above.

I'm not a scientist but my suspicion is that the real answer to this question is going to turn out to be a lot more complicated than a yes or a no.
