And of course the other issue is that with all the people panic buying, emergency services are going to be put in danger because they have restricted access to fuel.
This is clearly going to have awful consequences, possibly even for those who bought extra fuel - if there's a fire because of the hazard of storing it, fire engines may not be able to even get there.

Did Speculation Fuel Oil Price Swings?

Investors artificially inflating the price of a commodity relied upon across most industries just stinks in so many ways. No doubt recent prices spikes indicate those same investors have recovered enough financially to get up to their old tricks.
