I get news mainly from the BBC online and the Independent and Guardian newspaper sites. Sometimes I watch Russia Today and Al Jazeera to compare different angles. I occasionally read some of the trashy tabloid newspaper sites just to see how biased and simplistic they are about important issues like the war in Afghanistan, the economy, youth unemployment etc.

I think it's important that people get their news from a variety of sources. I listen to the radio, view the Internet, watch the television and read hard copy newspapers as well. All of the sources I get my news from are from different strains of media ownership. It's important to expose yourself to different viewpoints... which can be increasingly difficult as more media conglomerates are starting to own everything, but can also be increasingly easy with the prevalence of the Internet these days.

Regularly (at least one of these every day): Vancouver Sun, The National Post, BBC, Al Jazeera, Haaretz (Israeli), and Hurriyet (Turkish)
Occasionally (once a week or so): New York Times, The Economist

Mainly some blogs, a select few twitter accounts and emails I receive. I get the kindle version of the New York Times on my phone everyday and read it all the time, mostly to know what others are thinking over a subject I've already made my mind up on.
I also receive the digital version of the New Yorker magazine but it's not necessarily a news source is it? although I love it dearly. BBC is usually the generic site of choice, but it gets a bit boring at times. |
