Islam

I dunno how many Muslims there are on MB and to what level you practise.

Here's an idea, why does the communities of Islam not collectively put out a Fatwa on Bin Laden and Al Qaueda?

Because, if you ask me, they don't represent Islam. If they say they do, cool! Fatwa for you my friend, regardless of what was going on in your homeland you broke the rule of defense and took the fight to countless civilians who weren't armed for war!:finger:

I'm serious man. It's one way for the Islamic community to rebuild some bridges with the rest of the World.

In a way, I agree with cruckster. Or some of it, perhaps. That was a strange post. I think it's important for muslims to take a stance against extremists who would use their religion to f.ex justify heinous crimes they don't agree with. I feel the same is true for any religion, but the truth is of course that muslims have been getting a lot of bad press due to extremists, whether that's justified or not. So even though it may be true for christians, depending on where you are, it may be true more so for muslims just because of circumstance.

I feel like more and more muslims have voiced opinions against religious extremism in Norway and I think that's good.

I think that it's both pretty obvious and public opinion that Al Qaeda is a misrepresentational extremist sect of Islam, and that most Muslims agree with their actions or the abuse of Muhammad's writings to carry out atrocious actions.

Of course you're right. But that doesn't take into account that people's feelings, like the fear an old lady might feel as an immigrant pushes by her on the tram, can be pretty stupid and colored by what goes on in the media. Not everything we can see through rationally is so easy to get by on an emotional level.

Yes, I can see your point. People are blinded by emotion to the extent of not seeing what makes sense. But I still think that my point makes rings true, especially since the 9/11 is less fresh and most people are ready to let their burning sentiment fade to see common sense.

Who knows, maybe a coalition of the Muslim majority speaking out against extremism could lessen the idiotic anti-Islam prejudice.
