EXACTLY. I remember a quote (Hermione, you probably know the one I'm speaking about) and the girl is talking about all of the work she's done including sex work and customer service. She talks about how badly people treated her and how they looked down on her and at the end, you find out she was talking about the customer service job.
Have any of you ever worked customer service?? People act like you should be bowing at their feet. I remember when I worked as a customer service attendant, and a customer rushed me, yelling at me because her kid's bus was about to be at its stop. She was yelling at ME because she was gonna miss the bus!!! And the coworkers there were gross and gossipy and horrible people. I was sexually harassed so much and no one did anything about it. Most jobs are like this, too, so you can't just pick out one position and be like WOW IT MUST BE SO HORRIBLE. |

Everyone has some target group of hatred where they work, if it's not the people you specifically work with "In the office" then there are others. Mine are student's parents, usually the parents of spoiled little pricks who can't sort their own lives out who constantly demand information I can't give them. The acts I hate, usually asking people for death certificates for whichever family member they have listed (some students use "bereavement" to get extra time on deadlines etc so we need to do this, but in the genuine cases you can't help but feel like a complete c***. |

![]() Cater to weird fetishes, there is literally a fetish for everything. I had a burping line not too long ago where a guy would pay 100 bucks just to hear me on the phone burping for 10 mins lmao. I basically only have one client atm but he pays like 500 to see pictures of the soles of my feet or for me to make videos of me scraping dead skin off my feet Your views on this are really refreshing to hear, especially since this thread is full of patronising wank that's based on bullshit articles rather than actual experience or knowledge and it is so tedious to have to deal with this bull**** as much as I do |

Thanks, yeah I just try to base my views on whatever close up experience I have which isn't much in this case. I'll be honest I haven't checked out the bulk of this thread but I guess it is a topic where people can make some pretty sweeping generalisations or feign empathy and the like. |

wtf???? Sex work is real work, people just don't seem to grasp this. We're not selling our sexuality, we're selling others and it's ****ing irritating to be condescended to about our choices. My being a dominatrix was empowering and probably saved my life, because it empowered me to finally leave my ex, when our relationship was so ****ed up and he was so abusive I probably would have drank myself to death |

That's quite interesting though, so you grew into the dominatrix persona and it helped you, you weren't like it from the start? I'd never really thought of therapeutic benefits to it but kudos that's pretty cool. The usual backlash response for *****y relationships for both genders is to sleep around, then it seems to come down to the individual whether that helps or just messes you up further. |

I think the reason a lot of people look down on sex workers isn't just because they see it as demeaning but because they see it that way AND it requires very little skill. It's kinda like a social totem pole in my opinion. Those with high-paying AND well respected jobs are near the top (doctors would be a good example). And I think the criteria for the totem pole is a combination of education, experience, service to society (does it benefit society?), and pay scale. I'm sure there are others factors, but those seem to be main indicators to me of where someone falls on that totem pole solely based on their job. So when you consider that sex workers are probably one of the more looked-down-upon jobs, I don't think it's very surprising. The money can be pretty good, but it requires no sort of education or credentials (Maybe you could argue being attractive for those hott enough to be in big-time magazines and porn productions) and no experience. I think the biggest factor is the service to society or lack thereof that sex workers provide. Most people would probably consider sex workers to have some of the lowest services to society. Helping a fat, bald 45 year old get off in his computer room really isn't seen as beneficial to anyone except for one individual for a few minutes. I also think society in general believes sex workers lack virtue. I think future consequences of the job (pics/videos) also leads people to question the intelligence or morals of sex workers. Lots of generalizing of course ![]() Since hermione claims to be a sex worker, do you consider yourself a prostitute? |
