I had a friend that was really into fetish modelling and stuff and seriously considered working for a local fetish-site/culture/whatever-you-all-it called Kink. Apparently it's a really difficult industry to get out of. Contracts can be pretty invasive and controlling, at least with Kink and a lot of other places in California. A lot of would-be models also end up getting taken advantage of, too. I saw an interview somewhere with a major site owner calling it "initiation". Pretty ****ed up. I'm sure there's plenty of models that genuinely enjoy what they do, even when it's obvious they're faking it on set. Dunno if that point was brought up already but yeah, something to consider.

That was an interesting vid Vanilla. Personally (and I'm probably in the minority here) watching bonobo monkeys shagging on a David Attenborough docco are cuter and don't look like they are trying so hard. Who's got time to sit and watch hours of porn anyway. Get a life!

Good doc Vanilla..

I enjoyed this Sasha Grey interview if anyone is interested. It's not based entirely around porn but it has some interesting parts discussing it. A lot of it is about her and her career beyond the industry:

What I really pulled out from the documentary was the fact that these women and men have to rely on drugs to get them through scenes. I mean if you've seen anal/vaginal porn which can often be really rough the recipient can get tears of the entrances. They can fit a lot of movies in and tend to not get much of a say with what they are ordered to do in the performance. Many women have said no to doing anal and they end up doing it anyway. The producers and directors can be very manipulative. I do believe there are many lost souls in the industry but like you said there will be porn stars that do enjoy it, I've seen many. I think the important thing is pushing these stars to wear condoms. So many stars have died through contracting HIV. I've seen a video of a female porn star being rape and beaten on set, even when she clearly said no and did not consent to the abuse. I've watched some porn videos where it's really forced and you can tell the porn star is extremely uncomfortable.

Thanks Grogsy! I'm really pleased you got a lot out of it. Yes I don't particularly find the main looks of women and men appealing. I love vintage and classy porn. I also like the idea of real couples having sex.

I haven't watched the doc yet but definitely will. It's pretty scary what these people can get away with once they have a model under contract. I'm surprised more initiative isn't being taken to make things better for these people. I don't get the stigmatism against sex workers and the concept of porn. I mean, when both are so unregulated and illegal obviously they're gonna have some serious problems. There's definitely some twisted sick **** out there. I've stumbled upon it too and it's pretty upsetting. What's worse is you know there's someone out there that totally fetishizes it- the more ****ed up the shoot the more turned on they are. I would even venture to say porn is probably conducive to a lot of misogynistic attitudes. People see the way sex is portrayed in porn and expect it to be the same in bed and in most cases it's just not. As far as condoms go, on board with that idea totally. I think here in Cali there's actually laws similar to the ones in Amsterdam that require models to get checked for STIs regularly which is a pretty good start. Dunno if that's a common practice elsewhere but it should be.

They covered the monthly check up thing in the doc. The problem with that is in between that time if they catch something before their next check up, they will just pass it on for that whole time thinking they are clean because of their last exam.

For anal scenes, women usually practice/stretch with a ***** the night before to prep for an anal scene. Also they don't just go forcing them to do anal without their permission. What goes on and doesn't go on is agreed upon before filming even starts. Anal scenes fetch a higher asking price so it isn't something the director will just add on a whim.

Also those porn scenes where you think they are uncomfortable and look forced is part of the whole performance. They are called actresses for a reason.

Eh, a lot of manipulation is involved though. A model might not wanna do something but not have a choice due to contract. Or, if they don't do it they'll lose an agent or something like that.

If they don't want to do something they either walk off the set or don't sign the contract. They are a functioning adult that can consult to whatever.
