Transgendered people can't board airplanes in Canada.
I can't believe this.
chrismilloy.ca » Transgender People are Completely Banned From Boarding Airplanes in Canada And for further proof, section 5.2 (c) of the Identity Screening Regulations (last amended in July 2011): http://bit.ly/AiVUAE We're obviously not as progressive as we'd like to seem on the world stage, when it comes to sexual orientation and gender identity. |
Lol.
I think the article is a bit nuts though. I doubt if section 5.2c was written for the purpose of being discriminatory against transgendered people. "Minister of Transportation Denis Lebel is, of course, a federal Conservative MP appointed to the cabinet position by Stephen Harper." I thought this was funny. This seems similar to that gay marriage recognition issue. Its a technical issue not an intentional attack on alternative lifestyles. |
that's worse off than here
no bias against transgenders using any form of transport, just that it's hard to have a professional career unless you can hide your original sex/gender well |
We're not progressive. We've got Stephen Harper in a majority.

Canada has airports? Are the planes made out of bacon and maple syrup?

^^ No, their made of snow and polar bear's ass. Great way to fly, really
|
^^ice-skating would be an appropriate mode of travel, preferably with hockey sticks as propulsion
|
Why wouldnt they just lie about being trans then? I get the matter of principal but if you really need to fly....
|
^^some may look too obvious

The point was not to ban transgendered people from flights it was to stop the possibility of militant extremists from sneaking on board while wearing the traditional muslim dress for women with covered faces. Consider the amount of hassles Quebec has been getting with asking muslim women to drop their veils and show their faces when it comes to stuff like getting a driver's license.
The transgendered population is getting caught in the crossfire but to claim that this is an attack against them isn't really accurate. It might not be the most supportive or understanding piece of law but I don't see how it's an attack, nor unchangeable. |
