This sort of post pisses me off. Why does everything have to be made into some sort of comparative competition?

There are all sorts of different reasons for riots with some more justified than others.

As far as I'm concerned the events taking place in London are pretty severe. It's scary as hell being here to be honest, we aren't allowed to leave and you can hear bangs, crashes, shouts and sirens constantly. There's a fire that's been raging in Clapham for about two hours now, I can see it's glow from my window and it looks huge.

As for the reasons acting as a catalyst for all of this, I don't know. It's mainly disconnected groups of youths just randomly targeting anywhere and everywhere, I agree that there has to be some sort of underlying resentment driving this behaviour but the manner in which they're going about their business is just mindless and totally reckless. I just can't get my brain around it all, I've seen stuff like this on TV before but never experienced it myself. It's shocking. I'm probably not typing anything of sense at the moment - I'm just... fuck.

Of course it is mindless and reckless. 95% of the rioters are just doing it for the sake of it but there is a problem somewhere. It may not be relevant to everyone social or politically but people just don't start a riot for the sake of it.

Flip the coin the other way in that we live in relative peace over here so why start a riot? Something, somewhere is pissing people off. We don't just become an unruly mass for the sake of it.

I don't know what it is but AGAIN this is not mere coincidence.

People are pissed off and public protests have been commonplace for over a year now when it was relatively quite up until then.

Die out in a couple of days?

This is what these grade A cunts are doing all over the city. This particular instance is a Croydon furniture shop founded in 1876, it's been a family run business for over 100 years and because of this mindless activity it's now been completely obliterated.

I'm watching the news now and an absolutely gigantic fire is rumbling in Essex at the moment, there are no videos on the internet of it yet but I can tell you it's vast, if anyone is watching BBC News you'll know what I mean. The violence seems to be increasing in severity, the acts of vandalism are becoming bigger and more devastating

It's become a major crisis, one that just cannot be swept under the carpet in a few days.

You greatly understimate the ability of the individual human to act like a jackass. You've compltely ignored the historical willingness of a group of people to do absolutely repugnant **** just because everyone else was doing it.

I'm not British, but whenver these arguments occur vis-a-vis something in the states, it annoys me. "It's not a riot, it's an expression of rage" wrong mother****er, these are jackasses who are looking for an excuse. Whenever you say, "I don't agree with riots, but...." - you're excusing their behavior.

Oh, boo ****ing hooo. University fees went up. So? Let's do a mental exercise; how many rioters are Uni students who both go to school & work full time? How many are "fulltime students" who lack regular full time employment and have a middle class family to fall back upon?

This isn't a revolution, and I'd be damned if any workingclass mofo is going to risk prison time & a rap sheet over something political.

American History X fan by chance?

Riots in general are retarded. I haven't really followed this much aside from a google search I did because of this thread. But you see it happen all the time, all over the world for dumb reasons (like every sports championship ever). I think people justify their actions in the moment because everyone else seems to be doing it. Rioting just hurts your own community. Lighting shit on fire and destroying property really doesn't solve anything. I hope everyone caught on camera faces criminal charges.

The die out in a couple of days, was basically said out of hope rather than liklihood, but these things often just fizzle out after the initial energy has gone and go as quickly as they came.

The world is full of major crises these days, one just seems to lumber along after the other. I remember similiar riots in Brixton, Tottenham, Bristol and Bradford in the past and the severity of these was pretty bad at the time. The Tottenham riot was especially brutal, with the incident where a policeman was hacked to death. These were documented but ultimately swept under the carpet and not too much done about them, as most of these people in these areas still have the same gripe today.

Sure more officers from ethnic backgrounds has I think made some positive differences in how certain elements of society view the police, but by and large if and when there is some sort of real economic up-turn, the liklihood of any future riots is largely unlikely to rival those taking place at the moment.

My apologies Jack trying to lighten the mood a bit. Actually the LA riot was nothing but a reason to pillage, loot, and beat up innocent people. Seems like the London riots have a bit of reasoning behind them. Well at least they began that way. Hope everyone remains safe, good day.

There is no real reason behind the London riot at all, they`re just using the death of a person to go on a rampage, its summer as well and the nights are mild.........the whole thing will probably die out in a couple of days.

Then Brits will do what they do best and that is try to understand why this happened, they`ll reach a conclusion and then as per usual do nothing about it and just sweep it under the carpet until the next riots occur, these could be in either a years time or in the next decade.
