How about either of you provide any kind of figures or actual rationale as to why police brutality is at or not at a higher level than would be reasonable to expect given population and social constraints? FWIW, I expect that police brutality and racism is a significant issue primarily in highly urbanised areas, and that national statistics will be of very little use. I expect figures in cities like Detroit and New York to be astonishingly high and incidences of unjust police treatment to be evident in daily life, not as isolated incidences. I posit also that this will be heavily influenced by america's problems re: social equality. The poorest neighborhoods in urban america are overwhelmingly black, and also have the lowest literacy and highest crime rates, because those neighborhoods are where the poor are forced to exist, rather than having options to live elsewhere, and because urban racism keeps ethnic minorities poor while offering greater opportunity to white people.

@ Dj, on the subject of Mr Toy Gun.
Black lives dont matter. You on dat dope aint cha? Do you think the cops would have blasted him if he surrendered his mock weapon? I don't think so,with the advent of cell phones and YouTube you can belive at least six wanna be Dan Rathers were poised and waiting for the cops to pop off.. Also I'm willing to bet they told him drop his weapon more then once, and I'm sure they said it above a whisper. The simple fact of the matter is dicks with guns get blasted. And as far as this particular isolated incident is concerned the cops had a clean justifed shooting, in order to save innocent civilian lives bro. They didn't know the weapon was fake and part of being a sworn officer is if you feel that the lives of others are in iminate immediate danger they are authorized to use leathal force. Don't matter what color the person is. Put your Al Sharpton wig down on this brother and lay off dat dope. As far as the unarmed black kid goes, in MO thats a homicide. Point blank period. And quite frankly "our community" needs to learn the difference between the two.

I don't know why you are immediately taking the cops side on this one. You are making assumptions. White dicks with guns don't get blasted. When they go around with real rifles claiming they are exercising their amendment rights in an open carry state. So I don't want to hear that crap. Something definitely shady went on with this shooting, it wasn't a clean shooting at all whatsoever. If it was they would have released the video to the family already.

He was walking around a Wal-Mart carrying a toy gun and talking on his cell phone, which apparently "alarmed" other customers.
Any way you spin it it's racism at play. There's just no way we would be left with the same result had he been white. |
